The cabins are a great way to start or finish a trip near Portland, and we thought they were a bargain for lodging south of Bath. Set just off busy Route 1, they feel like a secluded place deep in the woods. They’re vintage and attractive, with solid buildings, comfortable beds, and a hand-built fireplace in ours. Although they sit between I 295 and Rt 1, the trees muffle most of the traffic. What noise gets through reminded me of rain or waves. There was firewood on the porch and the kitchen was well equipped. It rained the night we stayed, and we considered lighting a blazing fire, but we were too tired and had a flight the next morning. Breakfast was simple, mostly muffins and similar things, served in the lobby, where there’s really no room to eat. That was fine by us. The money we saved meant we could get a fancy breakfast downtown. The cabins are scattered among trees on uneven ground, so watch your step.

We’ve enjoyed every visit to Maine Idyll while coming to Bowdoin College, and we’ll stay again whenever we’re in the area. The cabins are clean and comfortable, a nice change from a regular hotel. They’re quaint and surrounded by woods, though you can hear some road noise from the nearby highway. Other guests have been quiet, and the staff have always been kind and helpful. It’s an affordable place to stay too.

We found these cabins at a great price for the night before meeting friends in Brunswick. Cabin 18 had recently been updated, and it was very clean. The wooded setting and pleasant staff made it a great stay. Highly recommend.

We stay here whenever we come to Maine. The cabins are my favorite, and the owners are great. It feels private while still being close to everything.

The little cottage in the woods was just what I hoped for, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was sparkling clean, the bed was comfortable, and I loved the front porch with its Adirondack chairs. The owners were lovely, and breakfast had a tasty assortment of pastries. I highly recommend this neat retro place. I was on my way to Bar Harbor to catch the ferry to Nova Scotia and stopped overnight in Freeport so I could visit the LL Bean outlet store. I found Maine Idyll Motor Court on Booking.com while looking for somewhere other than a chain motel, and liked the idea of having a cottage in the woods to myself.
