Hampton Inn & Suites Fremont

The room and bathroom were clean, but the hotel is in the middle of renovations that seem much needed: loose bathroom shelves, a chipped bathtub, crooked lamps, and outlets that don't work. We booked a king room, but because they were overbooked it wasn't available. Nobody told us we were being put in a smaller double queen room until we got there, so I had to return to the front desk. They didn't offer to refund the price difference; they adjusted it only after I pressed the issue. The following evening, the power went out for about four hours, leaving us without heat or light. The front desk communicated poorly and didn't know what was happening or what to do. We had few hotel alternatives, and packing in total darkness would have been difficult, so we bought flashlights and made do for a while. At checkout there was no apology or adjustment, and I was told we could have changed hotels if unhappy. I called the manager later, explained what happened, and he comped that night. I appreciate that they made it right financially, but I shouldn't have needed to call and ask. I'm a regular Hilton/Hampton traveler, and this location's service fell short.
