We spent the week in a two-bedroom place while the big snowstorm hit on Wednesday, February 18. It was something to see the ice moving on Lake Superior. Darcy stayed over to make sure we had what we needed, and Jason and the snow-clearing crew kept the paths open. We had a great time in the common room doing puzzles, playing games, and talking with other guests. The kitchen had enough equipment for us to cook. I brought basics like oil, butter, spices, salt, and pepper, and there's a food co-op right next door. Town is an easy walk, and Gunflint Tavern was open during the storm. The food was delicious. Amazing stay!

The Lake Superior view was great, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. The so-called suite had a Murphy bed that was falling apart, and the fireplace was just a tiny electric insert that was barely noticeable. If you want a cheap place to stay, this is it. They also added a $35 resort fee when we left.
We really liked having a back door that opened right onto the beach, and the staff were helpful. They even supplied firewood for beach fires and s'mores kits, plus there was free popcorn and coffee in the common room. Our two-room suite had a pleasant living area and a full kitchen, though we only used the fridge. The rooms look a little dated, but they're in good shape, and it seems like some updates are happening in the common spaces. Great spot right on Lake Superior. I only wish the electric fireplace were gas, since it gave off no heat.
We liked being able to walk to local shops and restaurants, and the morning coffee, tea, and hot chocolate selection was great. My kiddo especially enjoyed the fun-shaped sprinkles. The balcony overlooking the lake was lovely, and the full kitchen even had an ice maker in the fridge. The electric fireplace added some atmosphere, though gas or wood would be nicer. The rooms look nice, even if the construction feels a bit cheap. That wasn't an issue for our overnight stay. We didn't bring our dogs this time, but it's nice to know the place is dog friendly if we come back.
We've come back many times over the years and have never been disappointed. It's a clean, comfortable place to stay in Grand Marais.
