Days Inn & Suites Grand Rapids Near Downtown

The night staff were nice, the beds were comfortable, and the linens looked clean. Still, we almost checked out on arrival and drove home. Since the booking was already paid and non-refundable, we stayed. Smoke and cigarette smells filled the hallways, and the room had a musty odor. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned well, and the toilet paper holder was empty. The pool water looked clean, but yellow scum covered the pool floor. The hot tub has been filled in, so it no longer exists. In the “Arcade Room,” the pool table was dirty and its felt was torn. People were loud until 1am, sounding like kids running up and down the halls. Hallway light came through the large gap under our door, so we stuffed a towel there to block it while sleeping. The elevator was annoying too: it took us from the 5th floor to pick someone up on the 1st, then went to the 3rd before dropping them off, and only then took us to the 4th. Breakfast was a letdown, just donuts, muffins, and cereal.

We left the nasty Best Western next door and came here. For the price and service, this was an amazing property: the rooms were clean, the staff very nice, and shopping and dining were nearby. I felt safe and comfortable, though traffic noise was noticeable. The continental breakfast was good too. Don’t waste your money at Best Western next door, it’s a dump. Go Wyndham, where it feels like your money is respected and valued.

The front desk guy’s manner was rude and dismissive, and I found it completely unacceptable. The hotel says it offers customer service, but he refused to help guests and came across as unprofessional and not doing his job. It reflects badly on the hotel, and someone needs to take immediate action.

The woman at the front desk was polite and the service there was good, but the property itself isn’t being maintained by the owner or management. There was missing paint and holes or abrasions in the room walls, and the shower and tub valves barely sat inside the wall. The tub was stained and smelled strongly of cigarettes. The smoke alarm was in the refrigerator instead of mounted on the wall. The partly snow-covered parking lot was full of trash and leftover food. The area felt rough. It wasn’t the worst place I’ve stayed, but definitely not the best, and I’d only consider one night if on a budget.
