The gardens were just as striking as the house. There were maybe 10 or 12 separate spots, each with somewhere to sit, water features, loads of butterflies, and its own little conversation starter. The “Stables” had a character of their own, too, and the details in the entertaining spaces kept catching my eye. Once it got dark, the whole place felt magical. I spent a long weekend here with a few girlfriends, and the house made an immediate impression. It has so much grace and charm. Inside, the décor felt thoughtful, and the bedrooms and living rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. The porches made it easy to move between indoors and out. Such a special visit.

I loved how inviting the veranda was. I could have spent the whole day relaxing there. The house was charming and beautifully decorated, and the gardens were spectacular, with so many flowering plants that the butterflies seemed unable to keep up. It would make a lovely backdrop for wedding photos. I visited Highgate Estate & Gardens this fall and can’t wait to come back. I’d recommend it for a wedding or other special event.

We spent a relaxing weekend with friends at Highgate Estate and Gardens, tucked away in the small town of Greensboro, GA. You can walk into town for its one of a kind shops, with something for everyone. Back at the estate, the gardens were lush and full of birds and butterflies, with beautiful views all around. The owners were gracious and did so much to make our stay enjoyable. Mornings started around the gourmet kitchen and its delicious breakfasts. Later, we gathered on the wrap around veranda for wine, appetizers, music, and stories that went on into the evening. Our immaculate, spacious bedrooms each had their own décor, and the bed gave me the best night's sleep. The accommodations are exquisite, and the place feels like a quiet paradise whether you stay for one night, a weekend, or longer. Can't wait to return. October 11, 2017

We welcome brides and families who would like to see the Higdon House Inn and Gardens. Tours are by appointment, and there is no charge for them, despite what an earlier post said. This elegant Victorian house was built in 1810 and sits among landscaped gardens and pecan trees on 3 acres in historic Greensboro, Georgia, in the heart of the Lake Oconee district. It’s a short trip from Atlanta, Augusta, and Athens. We host an average of 50 wedding events a year, with brides coming from across Georgia, and offer several packages at competitive prices. No venue is right for every bride or every budget. We welcome constructive feedback from brides and those considering a wedding here. Our professional, friendly staff works hard to provide good customer service, and every detail of the venue is designed to create a beautiful setting for ceremonies and receptions. We’re proud to help make wedding days memorable.

Kathryn, our wedding coordinator, was there whenever I needed her. She answered emails or calls right away, helped smooth out differing opinions, reminded me of things I wouldn’t have thought to do, and directed the ceremony. I worry a lot, and she was great at reassuring me. If anything went wrong, she handled it before I even noticed. Knowing she had everything covered made the day feel so much easier. We booked the Higdon House 3 1/2 years ago, then had to reschedule twice because my husband is in the military. The team understood our situation so well. By the end, Jack the owner and Harvey the event manager felt like family. They kept encouraging me whenever the schedule changes got overwhelming. Our wedding on August 31st was amazing, and I can’t say enough about what they did to make it feel like sheer poetry. The place itself is breathtakingly gorgeous, and the staff were friendly, organized, professional, and happy to help. They had great ideas and provided impeccable service. So much is included in the pricing, it felt like a great value. Burke Brennan was our DJ and a delight to work with. He even got out on the dance floor to teach the wobble. Judy Leeson from At Your Service Catering handled our food. She replied to all my emails and helped put together a light summer menu. Our guests had so many good things to say about the dinner, the service, and the atmosphere she and her staff created. Thank you for making our wedding day the best day of our life. I can’t imagine being disappointed booking here.
