Star City Inn & Suites

We used this place for a one-night stop before an early flight from Columbus airport, and it did the job for that. Check-in and checkout were quick. The shower worked fine, but the bed wasn’t very comfortable and the sheets smelled musky. Even though it was a non-smoking room, it smelled as if someone had smoked in it. The decor was very dated, and the functional furnishings badly need updating.

This was easily the worst hotel stay I’ve had after traveling at a lot of them. There was hair in the shower and dog hair on the bed, plus burn holes in the blankets. The towels were old and looked like cleaning rags, and the windows were so dirty we couldn’t see through them. Our room had no phone, the cable wasn’t even connected to the TV, and you have to pay extra for a fridge. Disgusting.

For the price, I expected some things, but not dirt or safety problems. The bed sank and was uncomfortable, with stained sheets, and there were stains in the bathroom. The main door wouldn’t lock from inside: one lock jammed, another didn’t lock at all, and the chain was just hanging there with no door attachment. There were flies, and the dust in the room gave me an allergic reaction.

The manager was nice and refunded us, but it was a horrible experience. We arrived exhausted at 4 a.m. and left 15 minutes later, then drove the rest of the way home. The location was convenient, with food and gas stations next door, but our room was awful: one bed was broken, towels were wet, pictures were off the wall, the TV didn’t work, and the blankets had holes. It might work as a party hotel, but not for a night’s sleep on the way home. Very disappointing.
