I paid 270 and couldn't shower or get any peace. When I turned on the shower, rust flakes covered the tub, and cold water came out brown. Running it for 20 minutes didn't clear the pipes. The plumbing needs replacing, not just maintenance. I have sensitive skin and couldn't shower in that, and I wouldn't want rust in my hair anyway. I didn't ask for a different room, since I figured a small motel probably used the same pipes throughout. I'd already unpacked everything and helped our blind dog learn the room. There was no toilet paper, so bring your own from dollar general if you dare. Signs said no smoking inside, but there was ash on the heat register by the toilet, stains and smell, cigarette butts around the room, and the headboard had been used to put one out. It didn't look thoroughly cleaned. Kids screamed outside my window every day, so it wasn't relaxing. The man at the desk was kind and gave my dog an extra blanket, but he seemed too distracted to answer why we were placed where we were. We were at the far south end, yet he asked us not to use that area for the dog and expected my blind dog, who is sick with cancer, to walk all the way to the east side. He specifically told us to leave her waste there and NOT pick up after her. There was also a husky tied to a tree, with no food or water, despite the rule against leaving animals alone. It kept trying to get our attention. I felt awful for the poor dog and regret not saying something. The one good thing was the seclusion. I'd suggest staying in Mason city and making the drive, or taking a chance on the other motel in town. Iowa falls hotel isn't too bad either. Hamptons 3 choices aren't the greatest. If I'd had a child who needed a bottle, I'd have been furious to learn I'd made it with dirty water. I'll be contacting the proper local channels about the condition of this place.
