Howard Johnson by Wyndham Harrisonburg

After seeing reviews with mentions and photos of bedbugs, I called the hotel right away to cancel the reservation I had made through booking.com. The site reviews had looked okay when I booked. On my first call, someone answered while people talked in the background, but nobody spoke to me before hanging up. There was no answer the second time. On the third call, they said Booking.com wouldn't let them cancel and hung up promptly. Booking.com later gave me a partial refund and contacted the hotel about approving the rest. The hotel's reply was “Request denied.” They can issue a refund, but won't. I guess losing $100 is a small price to avoid bedbugs. This place is a scam.

For this price, the rooms feel old and weren't very clean. The room service was disappointing. One lamp had a dead bulb, and a chair was dirty and broken. They left only one or two small soaps, a few coffee sachets, and nothing else. We could hear a lot of highway noise, and breakfast amounted to nothing. We were very disappointed.

The front desk staff were rude and unprofessional, and we didn't feel safe with them having our information. They tried to charge us multiple times even after checkout. The place felt shady, with many people staying long term. In the room there were bedbugs, cigarette burns everywhere, suspicious stains, disgusting bugs, a door lock that looked as if it had been kicked in, and terrible ventilation. This was a horrible experience and a health risk. I'd tell people not to stay here unless they want to get extremely sick or hurt.

I worked in the hospital industry for more than 20 years, and this place is horrible. At check-in, I was told they needed to authorize my card twice for the room. When I refused, they said there was no problem releasing the pre-authorization and the room since I'd driven five hours. Today I checked my account and saw that the authorization had been charged. Check for fraudulent charges and follow up. Dispute and report! If I could give less than one star, I would.
