Mahana House Country Inn

We loved the Makai cottage so much that we spent one whole day there instead of going out. It’s newly built, clean, and nicely decorated. The bed linens and towels were comfortable, the bathrobes were provided, and we enjoyed the breeze from the ceiling fans and open windows. Natural light filled the place through the windows and sliding door. From the lanai lounge chairs, we could watch the farm and the dawn sky unfold like a painting, with nothing in the way. The kitchenette had everything we needed after buying food at Island Naturals in Hilo. Randy was attentive and quick to respond to all our needs and requests. It’s a beautiful, welcoming, well-run guest house. We hope to return. Mahalo for a wonderful stay, Randy and Mahana House!

We really enjoyed our couple of days here last week, especially since there are around a dozen cats living on the property and we're cat people. The place is quiet and laid back, with lovely ocean views, and our fairly spacious room had a mini kitchen and an electric kettle. We also had access to the full kitchen and fresh fruit, and there were complimentary robes in the bathroom. The cats were sweet and sociable, too. We stayed in room #3. It was a bit dated and could use a few small repairs, though nothing major. The shower's hot water was unreliable, especially when several guests were getting ready at the same time in the morning. The inn is also 45 minutes to an hour from Volcanoes National Park, farther than we'd have liked, but the secluded setting made that tradeoff worthwhile.

The owner made us feel welcome, and we’d happily return for a longer stay. Our two-bedroom cottage was clean, comfortable, and nicely put together, with thoughtful details throughout. Fruit trees around it added to the peaceful, private feel, and the views were stunning. It’s tucked away and quiet, but still close to the main attractions, so we could enjoy the area without the bustle. Such a great find near Hilo.

We loved how quiet and tucked away it felt, while still being close enough to drive to Waimea or Hilo for food and activities. The lanai views were perfect, and friendly cats wandered around the property. We spent two peaceful, relaxing nights here for our honeymoon and can’t wait to come back.
