Club Quarters Hotel Downtown, Houston

Housekeeping did a great job, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. A strange man was angrily knocking on my door and the one next to it. I called the front desk to explain what was happening, and the woman was extremely rude instead of taking a guest safety concern seriously. The phone and TV in my room also didn't work.

The hotel is in a useful spot downtown, close enough to walk to the convention center, major offices, and plenty of good restaurants. There's also a restaurant in the building that's handy for a quick meal or meeting. The room felt dated and not well maintained. The fridge had black spots that looked like mold, which isn't acceptable at this price. Housekeeping was inconsistent, and the common areas didn't feel very clean or welcoming. When I asked the front desk about cleaning and a few basic things, the staff were dismissive and unhelpful. The stay didn't live up to expectations.

The service was okay, and the valet staff were kind and helpful. I barely spoke with reception. My room was small compared with most hotels, but workable if you're out and about most of the time. I imagine the location is better on weekdays. I was there over the weekend, and downtown felt completely empty, with skyscrapers all around and hardly anyone on the walkways.

The attached restaurant had a burger I kept talking about for two days. It was that good. I'll make this my regular hotel when work brings me to Houston. I travel alone, so the rooms being small was fine, and there were lots of comfortable places to work outside my room. Every staff member was kind and helpful, which feels rare. They were accommodating, and there was a daily yoga session on the TV. I felt safe with the locked doors and attentive, friendly valets. I was worried the close rooms might mean noise, but I heard nothing from either side, and outside noise was nonexistent. I hadn't heard of this hotel before, but needed somewhere near my office that I could walk to, and I'm glad I chose it.
