Palace Inn Gulfgate

My girlfriend got food poisoning and threw up on the floor shortly after we checked in. I did the best I could with towels, then went to the desk for fresh ones and asked for someone to mop. The front desk guy said housekeeping would start at 7pm, about an hour away, and that he’d send the maid right to our room. At 7:15 nobody had come, so I went back. The guy I’d spoken with had clocked out at 6:30 and never told housekeeping anything. He flat-out lied to me. The night shift guy was extremely rude. He said we’d have to “wait our turn” because the maid had started at the other end of the hotel. It had already been over 1.5 hours since I first asked for help, and I told him the room needed attention now because neither of us wanted to smell vomit any longer. He said it was my problem and suggested my girlfriend, who was miserable in bed with FOOD POISONING, and I could wait in the car if the smell was so bad. I’ve never been treated so disrespectfully by someone in hospitality. The maid was very kind, though. The hotel itself is nice, and it was clean inside and out with comfortable beds. Too bad the desk staff were so lazy and disrespectful. Palace Inn itself has no customer service number, and the email system on its website doesn’t work. If my girlfriend hadn’t been too sick to walk to the door, we would’ve checked out and driven back to San Antonio that night. I guess I’ll contact my bank tomorrow morning to reverse the charges. EDIT: I’d already said there was no phone number or working email, but the response they posted (likely AI-generated) still gave me no way to reach anyone. Just a big “sowwy! 🤷‍♂️” and a vague promise to talk to the boneheads who made an already-ruined vacation worse. If the company cared, they’d actually try to make this right.

The rooms were clean and really nice.

The room was lovely, with everything looking new and shiny, and thoughtful extras like complimentary lotion and a toothbrush kit. It was nice and clean, too. The location might not be ideal, though, and the night receptionist was grumpy and acted like renting me a room was a favor. He could use some customer communication training.

The area might give you the wrong impression, but the hotel itself is a hidden gem. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and the beds were amazing. It was well lit and quiet.
