Courtyard Cleveland Independence

The bed and the rest of the room were fairly clean, all the outlets worked, and the insulation did a good job. I couldn’t hear the TV or neighbors, though I could hear water running when someone nearby showered. Since it was snowing, I was glad the heater worked well. When my key card didn’t work at first, the staff quickly switched me to another room, which I appreciated. There were quite a few stains on the walls and obvious red marks on the carpet. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was strawberry syrup rather than blood. The shampoo and body wash in my shower seemed to be the same liquid, but I was only there a couple nights and didn’t ask about it. Water also collects in a low spot in the tub instead of draining, and there was a noticeable rust stain there that made it look like the issue had been around for a while. At night, FaceTime calls on the hotel Wi-Fi kept dropping, so I had to use mobile data to call my spouse. It was a pretty good stay for what I expected from a 3 star Marriott, and I’d stay again. I just hope the staff pays more attention to cleaning details.

I chose this hotel in Independence for a business trip to downtown Cleveland last November because I didn’t want to pay downtown rates. For nearly 200 a night, I expected a better room. Mine was small and outdated, and after usually having good stays at Marriott hotels, I found this one disappointing.

The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. I took off a star because the perfume sprayed in the hallways was very strong and bothered my allergies, leaving me congested for the whole stay. We were there for a hockey tournament, and the smell also left my son congested during his games. If strong scents or perfume trigger your allergies, keep that in mind when booking.

There’s no room cleaning, trash pickup, or fresh towels, even after we ran out of clean ones. The rooms also have no microwaves, and there’s nothing within walking distance. The website says the restaurant closes at 10, but an employee had already shut it down by 9 and wouldn’t make us anything. I slipped on a puddle just across from the pool, outside the elevator. I reported it, but it was still there 20 minutes later. The Wi-Fi was slow, probably because they want guests to upgrade to a paid plan. Bad experience overall.
