I lived in Artistry for almost two years, and felt physically unsafe and unable to trust the front office. There were homeless people entering the property, including the locked parking lot, sleeping in vestibules, and smoking in staircases during winter. The main door stayed broken for long stretches, so anyone could enter without a fob. My car was broken into in the partner garage, and three packages were stolen. I reported them promptly and followed up, but never got them back and the office showed no urgency. The gym flooded and was closed for months last year. The pool is nice, but was repeatedly closed for chemical balancing last year and almost all summer this year. Once, both the stairwell door and elevator in our building were out at the same time. The fire alarm kept going off late at night or early in the morning, and once even the firefighters couldn’t shut it off. We also had no AC for three weeks during a summer heat wave. There was mold in the units too. The office felt untrustworthy and never showed empathy or understanding. I won’t forget the property manager being stern with us over our lease, saying Indiana law let them change our rent and that nothing could be done about sudden increases. Moments later, they apologized and admitted an Artistry software glitch a few months earlier had put us in a compromised position. Apparently, it had led many residents to accept flat-rate month-to-month leases, even though those usually rise sharply over time, and corporate had noticed the number of residents who accepted the same offer and was trying to amend it. When we went to the office to clarify the renewal offer, management had verbally and enthusiastically encouraged us to accept the flexibility, and said not to expect increases, confirming what we saw in the system. The manager asked whether we had written proof. Since we didn’t, they shrugged and repeated they could give us 30 days’ notice of a rent increase whenever they wanted, and we could do nothing about it. I never felt confident that the front office or property managers would step up and make this feel safe to live in.
Flies have infested the main building’s second floor. Just walking through the hall makes my skin crawl, and opening the trash room is like stepping into a horror scene. The halls are lined with flies too. This is an update to my earlier review, and if zero stars were possible, I’d give them that. Trash is all along the halls, elevators never work, and the stairwells and outside paths reek of urine and feces, especially near the dog park. Units and amenities flood constantly, the pool is never open, and maintenance doesn’t respond. There’s mold in the units as well. You’ll get harassed by homeless people because Wheeler Mission is next door. You also have to pay to park in an unsecured garage a block away, where homeless people sleep in the elevators. In-building parking costs a premium, which is useless when the elevators are always out. The place has changed owners so many times, and only seems to get worse. The photos I posted give you a taste of what to expect, including the fly problem. Don’t live here. Please listen to the reviews.
After looking into Broad Ripple, I moved here from Fishers and signed my lease without seeing the unit in person. It turned out to be perfect for me. I’ve been here two months and am thankful every day I come home that I made the move. The building is clean, and I like how accessible the community is. I’m looking forward to warmer weather so I can enjoy more of downtown Indianapolis. If you want a trendy apartment in a great location, Artistry Indy is the place.
The renewal rates were the breaking point for us. Short-term options were dramatically more expensive than our current rent, double in some cases. We tried to find a workable arrangement, but the offers felt financially unreasonable. As college students, it was frustrating to deal with a large property owner that seemed more interested in squeezing extra money out of tenants than reaching a fair outcome. For months, we stayed in touch with Artistry Indy management in good faith about whether we could renew. We didn’t ignore the process or disappear. We raised pricing concerns, asked for flexibility, and seriously considered staying. Despite that ongoing communication, management later acted as if none of those conversations mattered and tried to impose major extra charges based on a strict interpretation of the notice rules. In my experience, management was rigid and dismissive, with no meaningful flexibility even though we’d been good tenants and kept communicating. Read every lease term closely, pay attention to notice requirements, and be careful about relying on renewal discussions unless everything is formalized exactly as management wants it. Based on what happened to us, I wouldn’t recommend living here.
I’ve loved living at Artistry so far. This is my first apartment, and I moved in about a month ago. My leasing agent, Jack, and the front office team have been helpful getting me settled and answering my questions quickly. They made the move easy and stress-free. Highly recommend!
