Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham DFW Airport North

The bed was new and okay, but the sheets and blankets were awful. I suspect the mattress protector came from Temu. Front desk staff had trouble communicating. Breakfast was coffee, and if you asked, the desk handed over a little packet of biscuits. The rooms advertised a cooktop and microwave, but there wasn't a single utensil or piece of cutlery, or even a bowl, cup, glass, or anything to cook in. When we asked, the desk gave us all they had: three paper cups and three plastic spoons. I might have to scrape enough ice chips off car windscreens in the lot to make a couple of disposable knives. The ground floor was still being renovated. Luckily, the tools stopped not long after we arrived, and they should stay quiet for the rest of our snowed-in stay. Looks like an interesting three days.

The construction made it hard to even find the entrance. The front desk is in a closet now, and getting there means walking through the work area. Everything was dusty and dirty, with trip hazards everywhere. Hallways were blocked by exercise equipment and rubbish left by the crew, and heavy machinery right outside my windows made so much noise that sleeping was impossible. We had been traveling and hoped for a nap before our 4 a.m. airport trip. None of this was mentioned when I booked on Hotels.Com, or I'd have chosen somewhere else. I requested an ADA room with a walk-in shower and never got one. The shower had lots of hair and black mold, and the bathroom sink was coming off the wall. This was the worst hotel stay I've had in years. I'll ask for a refund, though I doubt they'll be much help.

The Asian food truck outside was great. The shuttle was old and took a long time, and I also waited ages for someone at reception. Nobody answered the phone. The corridors smelled horrible, though it was less strong in the room.

During a twelve-hour layover, my fiancée and I came here hoping for a five-hour nap, but the room was so unsanitary it was uncomfortable. The full-length mirror was filthy, grease and sticky residue covered the cabinets, and every white towel looked stained and dirty. The utensils they provided had big pieces of dried food stuck to them.
