Covered Bridge Riverview Lodge

I should’ve paid more attention to the reviews before booking. It was super inexpensive, and we only needed somewhere to sleep after skiing for the weekend, so my expectations were low. I booked on hotels.com, and it must’ve defaulted to one adult because I never entered the guest count. The room was for two queen beds, so I assumed it was meant for multiple people. We drove three hours from out of state, but the owner, “ Priscilla”, refused us because there was one adult and several small children. We travel to New Hampshire often to ski and have never had a hotel object to our group size. When she refused to accommodate us, I asked for a refund. She wouldn’t give one and told us to leave. For about 15 minutes she verbally abused me in front of my young children, calling me names and insulting both me and them. I didn’t argue or respond, and that seemed to make her explode even more. She told me, “ you paid dirt cheap why do you need a refund anyway”. I can’t believe she runs a business. Maybe that’s why we were literally the only people there. It feels like a scam, charging people and then making them leave for various reasons. Reading the reviews, I see many others saying she took their money and abused them too.

We had a pleasant stay and really enjoyed talking with the owner. Sitting outside by the brook was wonderful, and the location was great. Coffee and tea were easy to access, and the bagel breakfast was convenient. The room with a balcony was good, though I was worried about the partly broken glass in the door. I called, and she said she already knew about it. The TV remote also didn’t work, and I think it just needed batteries.

I’d recommend the French onion soup at the Fox restaurant across the street. The price was great and the location beautiful, but the room was freezing when we arrived at 7:30pm after hiking in the freezing cold. Check-in was at 3, and the desk attendant claimed she’d turned the heat on ten minutes earlier. I didn’t believe that. Even the floors were freezing, and the towels were only big enough for an 8-year-old. The inn looks stuck in the 70s, with wood paneling and shaggy carpets, and there’s no mini fridge or microwave. Breakfast, if you can call it that, was K-cups, a couple of bagels, and some random fruit. The slider door to the porch was cool, but its latch was broken. If the heat had been turned on hours before we arrived, I wouldn’t be writing this review.

Our room was comfortable and affordable, with a beautiful view of the river. The staff were helpful, and the location was peaceful and quiet while still being a short drive from shopping and restaurants. No complaints.
