We were on vacation, driving down the East Coast from Maine, and stayed here as a couple. The room felt dated, with peeling walls and poor ventilation, especially in the bathroom. Breakfast was good, though it was the same both days. The contactless key system felt impersonal and could use a more personal touch, which is part of why people choose a B&B. The fire pit in the parking lot was nice, as was having a hot tub.

The Inn has a pleasant, classic New England feel and sits in a quiet spot within easy walking distance of the village. We visit Jackson every year or two in late fall to hike in the White Mountains, and our October 2025 visit was our first stay here. The room was well appointed while still keeping its old Inn character. Rates were reasonable, breakfast was tasty and made to order, and the service was superb, friendly, and accommodating. We really loved the Inn and will be back.

The room was clean, comfortable, within our budget, and well located for our plans, but the Inn missed a lot of easy chances to make the stay special. The house itself is beautiful, with original details and cozy, charming, modest furnishings. We stayed on 12/14 and arrived at 4:30 pm. I’m a Christmas lover and have a hospitality background, so maybe I’m especially critical, but there was just one strand of outdoor lights, nothing like the Google Photos. Inside, holiday decor was sparse too: two Christmas trees, but no garland or lights on the staircase or doorways. On a snowy 20-degree check-in evening, the fireplace was cold and dark. The mantel was decorated, but garland with lights and soft Christmas music from the speakers would have made it more welcoming. There was no receptionist to greet us, just envelopes with first names. We’d booked room 02 Josiah Bartlett Room for $226 for one night. It was on the second floor, up an undecorated stairwell and past a stained-carpet landing. The room was large and cozy, with hardwood floors, crown molding, a four-post queen bed, dresser, bedside tables, sofa lounge, gas fireplace, and en-suite bathroom with a clawfoot tub. The fireplace and tub were why we chose that room. It was clean, but upkeep was lacking: the bed squeaked excessively and had one wobbly, crooked post; an electrical outlet was exposed; there was a rust ring around the tub and its faucet backing was broken; the bathroom paint peeled, several bulbs were out, paint in the sleeping area was chipped, and the mini blinds were broken. We did appreciate the surge protector cube by the bed for charging our electronics. Our room was just above the outside deck and hot tub. We didn’t hear guests using it, but a light by the deck door lit up the windows like daylight and shone through the broken blinds all night, leaving a soft glow that disturbed our sleep. We were awake at 4 am and appreciated the self-serve K-cup station in the “bar” common area. We made coffee and took it to the living room for a fire. There were no directions for starting one, though a check-in note said guests could do so. A lighter and starter logs were supplied; we figured it out, but instructions about the flue would have helped. My husband also had to set up the TV before it would work. Puzzles and board games were available, which was a nice touch. The dining room had plenty of seats and another fireplace, but no fire in it. Its mantel had cute holiday figurines. Fresh brewed coffee was out at 7:30 am, along with water, OJ, cranberry juice, and fresh blueberry scones. Menus at each table offered omelets, French toast, and several kinds of pancakes. The breakfast staff were friendly enough, but the food was just okay: liquid eggs in the omelets and packaged pancake mix. It wasn’t bad, but wasn’t amazing. Breakfast service was the only staff we saw. At checkout, nobody was at the desk, there were no instructions posted, and no one asked how our stay was, thanked us, or said goodbye. We left our keys in a basket on the counter and went. There was a huge opportunity for an easy, inexpensive five-star experience, but the lack of holiday decor, thoughtful touches, upkeep, and personal service left a lot to be desired.

The Inn is in an ideal spot near major tourist sites, mountain trails, and hiking, and the outdoor hot tub worked and was well maintained. It’s a quaint New England-style place with period details and unique rooms, and breakfast was excellent and freshly made. Staffing is limited and there are no phones in the rooms, so if you want pampering or need a lot of attention, this may not suit you. It’s a great early fall or winter destination.

My retired parents stayed for two nights during a 10-day vacation, and the service fell far short of what we expected from a bed and breakfast. They saw an employee once, for less than 10 minutes across the whole two days, even though the property was full. The food that came from the kitchen was microwaved. Another guest couldn’t climb into her unusually tall bed, so my father had to find a wooden crate that held tennis rackets for her to step on. There were no stools available to help her get into bed. There was no hot water for the tubs or showers. My dad is 68, and my mom is 67 and has breast cancer. Buyer beware.
