Comfort Inn Jasper South

I’d still recommend this hotel. We’ve stayed in worse places, and all my complaints seem easy to fix. The staff were top tier, the front desk woman was cool and nice, and the man who seemed to be the GM was friendly and charismatic. My wife thought breakfast was good. The bathrooms were very clean apart from the bugs, with hot showers and fresh-looking, mold-free caulking. I can’t comment on the pool since we didn’t use it. The AC might need cleaning, because it smelled like urine-scented mildew every time we came back into the room. After a couple of minutes inside, we stopped noticing it. We stayed in room 304 and found carpet beetle larvae everywhere: on the chair, in the beds, in the bathroom, and dead behind the bed and under the chair cushion. At first I thought they were bed bugs, but after looking more closely and checking Google, I was relieved they weren’t. While I was asleep, I found an adult beetle in my pillow, and another in the shower. We got rid of them and saw none on the last day. We also inspect rooms before putting our bags down, and found hairs from different people in both beds. My bed had red and yellow stains on the sheets, with a smell of body juices, if you know what I mean. I forgot to take pictures to prove it. We only needed one bed, so we didn’t ask for new sheets.

I had a really nice stay. The rooms are lovely and quiet, and the staff are kind and helpful.

We’d planned to stay with family during our trip to Ferdinand and Jasper, but that fell through, so we booked here late at night. The staff were top notch, and the whole hotel felt safe and was seriously clean, with attention to detail. We really enjoyed our stay, and breakfast was very good. We both highly recommend the Comfort Inn in Jasper and will return. Thanks for everything!

The woman at the desk was perfectly nice, and this isn’t a criticism of her. But be aware: if your ID has a local address, you’re charged a $150 cash deposit plus a $150 card hold for incidentals. Nothing about this is listed on a website, and there’s no ATM on site. You have to leave to get the cash and come back. Maybe you need a room for family coming to town, or the power’s gone out, or one of a dozen other things has happened. This policy makes it especially hard for people in the local community to get a room. It seems management doesn’t want business from anyone who lives within 50 miles of here. I was told every hotel in Jasper now has this rule, which I find hard to believe unless they’re all owned by the same people. The room itself was worn too. It hasn’t been updated in about 20 years; the mattress was hard and lumpy, the pillows thin and not good for a proper night’s sleep. My back and neck hurt, and I got only a few hours of sleep. I won’t stay again. I’ll use my Hilton Honors app and book a room at the Hampton, so I can check in on my phone and avoid needing to get a lot of cash from an ATM at midnight for a seven-hour stay.
