Kansas City Marriott Downtown

Rance really made this trip for me. He handled check-in and helped me several times during my stay. Friendly, professional, funny, and always helpful. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and nicely equipped, with a great view from the 21st floor. I’m a light sleeper, though, and being next to the elevators made it hard to sleep. A microwave would’ve been nice, but I didn’t actually need one. Housekeeping was wonderful, too. The coffee shop staff were lovely, and it opens at 6 am. I wish coffee and a small breakfast were included, though I can see that might not be feasible at such a large hotel. Breakfast tasted good, but felt a bit pricey for what it was. The bar and restaurant were good and busy. I can’t remember the bartender’s name, but he was the best I’ve seen: quick, friendly, great memory, juggling several things at once, and making delicious drinks. Great stay apart from the elevator noise, and Rance was the highlight.

Every staff member went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Room service was quick and got the order right, and the front desk was friendly and helpful. The valets were so fun and welcoming, too. The room was pretty bare-bones, about what you’d expect at a regular roadside motel. There was a mini fridge but no microwave, and the beds were firm, though comfortable enough if you like them that way. Great experience.

The hotel has been decent, and despite how busy the weekend was, we got to our room quickly. The trouble was the valet. We requested our vehicle with reasonable notice, but waited long enough that we nearly missed two reservations. When I got into the car, a worker’s name tag was stuck in the seat. If it had been positioned differently, it could have gone into my leg and injured me. We told several people, but they didn’t do much. They also searched my car without asking me first. If someone had explained the incident and asked me to show them where the name tag was, I’d have been fine with that. Instead, they searched it without my knowledge. I wouldn’t stay here again. The hotel down the street has better valet service despite having less space than the Marriott. Even after requesting your car 30 minutes ahead, you may wait a long time. Update: management contacted me, was kind, and waived our valet fee. I appreciate them understanding our frustration and helping with the situation.

I was short on time and struggling to find parking nearby when Keito, Luis, Brilon and Teron came to help. They went well out of their way, and handled it all professionally. Absolutely amazing service, 10/10.
