Laguna Shores Studio Suites

It’s a quiet, peaceful spot away from the bustle, with ocean breezes coming right through our condo and a view of waves from the window. We love this little Resort, right across from Heisler Park in Laguna Beach. It’s an omen Resort, and the condos aren’t as fancy. But when the location is perfect, some things don’t really matter.

The location is convenient for the main beach, park, and places to eat. Still, we won’t stay there again. I’d like the owners to try sleeping on those Murphy beds themselves and then write a review. The staff were friendly and helpful, and one of them showed us to our room. At check-in, though, nobody explained how to get to our parking space on the roof, and it took us two tries to find the way up. Before leaving, the staff member did warn us that after 6 PM, using the microwave meant turning off all the lights first, or it would blow out all the electricity and require a maintenance call. We didn’t find the extra blankets we were told would be in the closet. There’s no air conditioning, just a fan in the room. And the Murphy bed was probably the worst bed we’ve ever slept on. I guess you have to put up with the hotel’s shortcomings if you want the location.

The location is good, and the hotel is clean and quiet. I stayed in a studio booked through Booking.com, listed as having “1 queen bed.” It turned out to be a Murphy bed that folds down from the wall, and it wasn’t very comfortable. For $200 a night, I expected better, though it’s partly on me for not opening the detailed description. The room came with only two pillows and a thin blanket. There was a kitchenette but no dish soap or hand soap. When I asked the front desk for two extra pillows, the staff member sighed, said she’d see what was available and that there might not be any. I followed her to the stock room, and she gave me one pillow. I met the same staff member again at checkout and asked if we could leave the car in our designated space until around 2pm while we went to the beach. Checkout was at 10am and the next check-in wasn’t until 4:30pm. She sighed again and said she guessed we could stay until 12:30. Check-in hours were very short, from 4:30pm to 6:00pm; outside that window, the front desk was closed and locked. The staff came across as unfriendly, with an attitude, and stingy.

You’re right by the beach, with Heisler Park just across the way. Great spot.
