The friendly, helpful staff and relaxed, welcoming feel made our second visit to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground just as wonderful as we remembered. We went in November 2025, and my family still talks about how much fun we had. The campsites are spacious and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Getting around the resort was smooth, and the Disney parks were easy to reach. There’s something about Fort Wilderness that helps you slow down and enjoy being together. It feels like a home away from home, and we’re already thinking about our next visit. We can’t recommend it enough.
I’ve camped here several times and would recommend it if you want an alternative to staying at a Disney resort. You get the best of both worlds: camping, plus access to Disney’s public buses. The campground is beautiful and has several amenities, including two restaurants and a bar with quick bites. From the beach, you can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks with the show’s music playing through the speakers. About 20-30 minutes later, there’s a fun electric boat parade each night. For a Disney property, it’s a great value.
The peaceful atmosphere was one of my favorite things about our stay. Fort Wilderness combines nature and comfort with the Disney experience, and it became one of my favorite campgrounds out of all the places we’ve visited. We stayed February 2-16, 2025, at Site 1721, a spacious back-in spot with a concrete pad, full hookups, picnic table, and BBQ grill. There was room for our RV, our truck and car in front, and the rented golf cart, with nothing feeling cramped. Everything was well maintained and easy to access. The campground is huge, with beautiful, clean, thoughtfully designed grounds and all the amenities we needed, including transportation to the parks, pools, dining, recreation, and activities. Having a golf cart made exploring even easier and more fun. The space, amenities, atmosphere, and location made the trip unforgettable. I absolutely loved this campground, and we’d happily stay again. I highly recommend it for RV travelers or anyone looking for a different kind of Disney resort experience.
If you mainly want to visit the parks, this is a fine location. For anything beyond that, I’d go elsewhere. There used to be nature trails and a lovely wooded bike route to Fort Wilderness Lodge, but they’ve been closed for years as the vacation resort keeps expanding. Construction has left most of the area off limits, with only a small trail by the beach still open, and there’s no sign it’s stopping. The campsites are decent, though privacy varies. Bathrooms stay clean considering how much they’re used, especially from 8-9 am. The shower drains are a problem, so expect to stand in a few inches of water, and keep your shoes off the mat just outside the shower or they’ll get wet.
We really liked Site 232 and its location, close to the camp store and marina for the water taxi to the Magic Kingdom. Bus stops for the other sections of the amusement park were nearby, and the bathhouse was nice and very close. The site felt surprisingly private. Its concrete parking pad was level, clean, and in great shape, with a large pea gravel area behind it, plus a picnic table and fire ring. It was a little narrow, which makes sense since loops 100-300 are apparently the campground’s oldest and smaller sites, but we had no trouble putting out the awning or using our camp chairs.
