Surfside On The Lake

The beach chairs are on a slight slope, so you slide toward the edge and can’t really sit in them without sliding off. Noise was a problem inside, too. Our room near the road was fine in location, but showers running and toilets flushing were loud, and the walls were so thin I could hear the next-door guests’ whole conversation. Our two queen beds were pushed against the walls on either side, leaving one person unable to get out of one bed properly. I’d rather have had two full beds with access from both sides. When I asked the next day about moving, the front desk clerk said we had the cheapest room and would need to pay extra for a room closer to the lake. I asked why I should have to pay more just to sleep at night. She said there were no cheap rooms left. I’m glad we didn’t pay to move, because after 11 p.m. the lake area was loud with music and people talking, and I wouldn’t have slept there either. We were excited about Surfside on the lake because of its private beach, but I can’t recommend this hotel for the late-night noise or the front desk service. There are plenty of other good places to stay in Lake George, and I’d choose one of them over returning here. We checked in on Tuesday and checked out on Sunday.

Our private balcony was a great spot for coffee and breakfast in the morning, and the weather was lovely. My wife and I were here Monday through Sunday during Labor Day week for the Adirondack Nationals car show. The room was probably the cleanest I’ve ever stayed in, and the cleaning staff took great care of us throughout. The grounds were neat and well kept, and the front desk women were pleasant, welcoming, and helpful. I had a mobility scooter, which made it easy to get around the village. The hotel is also very close to the town center and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and bars. All in all, a great experience. We recommend it to anyone and have already booked the same room for next year.

We had to call maintenance three times about the heat in our room, and their best fix was to turn it off and offer blankets. My children and I had to sleep in a freezing room while it was in the 40s outside. They didn’t offer to move us, and when I asked, they said they were full. That seemed untrue: walking around the property, we saw many empty rooms with open curtains. The front desk staff had no idea how to resolve the problem or offer compensation for the serious inconvenience. We’d have been warmer sleeping in our SUV. If you want to freeze here in the fall, this is the place. The maintenance men can’t seem to fix anything. Don’t stay here!

I had a very pleasant weekend here. The room was kept clean, with fresh towels, and whenever I needed internet, reception staff were friendly and quick to help. The pool was always clean, and the beach beside the lake was beautiful. The only drawback was that the restaurant was temporarily closed.
