Windsor Motel

The new owners have really improved the pool area, and everything felt clean and fresh. We’ve stayed at the Windsor for years, and this year a young couple bought it. They were so friendly when we arrived and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. The motel is right in the middle of everything, so we could park the car and walk around. The young woman also makes amazing candles. If you want a clean, friendly place in Lake George, this is it.

I’ve been coming to Lake George for over 30 years, mostly camping as a kid, and I’ve stayed at different hotels. For the last four summers, though, I’ve spent a few days here, and I won’t stay anywhere else. The price for this location really can’t be beat. It’s an easy walk to the heart of town, or you can cross the street and cut through the Fort to get to the lake. I like the old school charm, too. The rooms are dated and could use major upgrades, but for me, a bed and a hot shower during a few days away are enough. The rooms I’ve had all had great AC, a working microwave and fridge, a small coffee maker, a TV, and three lamps. The ice machine is at the edge of the parking lot and easy for everyone to reach. Staff are always friendly and welcoming, and I’ve never had trouble getting an extra blanket, towels, toilet paper, or a key. There’s a pool I haven’t used, with plenty of chairs, a slightly raised patio with more seating, and a basketball hoop for playing in the pool. That may be the one area that’s hard to access if you have accessibility needs. If you expect a four star hotel or red carpet treatment, look elsewhere. But for a clean place to sleep, a hot shower, a good location, and a decent price, it works for me.

My mom and I were on a two week senior trip through 16 states, and our stay at The Windsor Motel was one of the best parts. The room was clean and comfortable, and the place had a cozy, peaceful feel that made it easy to relax. You could tell they were putting thought into how guests felt. We were welcomed by a kind couple and the woman’s mother. They were helpful and friendly, offered recommendations, and checked in to see how things were going. That sort of personal hospitality doesn’t come along often. I left feeling like I’d met good people, not just hosts. If you want a quiet place with heart and warm hospitality, I’d highly recommend The Windsor Hotel.

The room had a TV, coffee pot, microwave, small fridge, and space heater, but the setup was very cramped. The bathroom was so tiny I could barely move or find a place for my things. A big gap under the outside door let large spiders in, and the smoke alarm kept going off for no apparent reason. There were no light switches on the wall.
