Courtyard by Marriott Denver Southwest/Lakewood

The price was great, so I didn’t bother filing a complaint. The room layout was fantastic, but the mini fridge didn’t work, which was a bummer. The TV was out too. I don’t really care about TV, though it did mean I couldn’t watch the national championship game on the big screen. Getting there is a little awkward since it’s off a frontage road. There are lots of good restaurants nearby, and the area is secluded, so traffic was the only real noise.

We tried the Courtyard by Marriott Denver Southwest/Lakewood on a trip to see our son, after a terrible stay at Sheraton Denver West the week before. This hotel was decent, but our room’s sliding glass door was so poorly sealed that it sounded like an open window. We heard every car on the road next door, and got two nights of terrible sleep. The shower’s inside handle was also very loose, though they fixed it after we reported it. The room wasn’t serviced while we were out, and we only learned why after returning late Sunday night from the football games. I went to the Front Desk because the in-room phone didn’t work. They told me rooms are only serviced after three days, which was apparently a Franchisee Policy, not a Marriott Policy. The employee gave me fresh towels, but once we were already in bed, we noticed the coffee supplies hadn’t been replaced either. My wife called the Front Desk from her cell. At first they said they couldn’t bring coffee up, but after she explained we were in bed, he agreed and brought it. That isn’t what we expected from MARRIOTT, and we won’t be using MARRIOTT again anytime soon. They can’t keep using COVID five years later as an excuse not to service rooms daily.

The people working here are some of the kindest and most caring hotel staff I’ve met, and they really make the stay. I come every year for a Denver conference. The rooms and amenities are always nice, and there’s a great little bistro that seems to be open nearly all the time.

Julia asked how our stay had gone when we checked out, and I let out all my frustration about the neighbors. They’d played thumping music, yelled, and partied and argued until 2am. We had to be up at 5:30am, and we’d called the desk three times. It would quiet down briefly, then start up again. I made clear that I wasn’t blaming the hotel, just really unhappy with the people next door. Without being asked, Julia comped our stay. I hadn’t expected anything, I just needed to vent, so that was a lovely recovery. We left tired but grateful and would stay again, as long as the party room is at the end of the hall. Our own room was spotless and comfortable.
