Tradewinds Motel

The room was smoky and had roaches, and the lamps weren’t working. The decor needs more work, like quick patch jobs. There was horrible foot traffic at the motel, and I never want to go back. I had a bad experience with the manager, who wasn’t polite and needs to work on customer service.

For the price, this is solid value: simple, clean, and comfortable. My room was surprisingly quiet for the area, and the staff were friendly and made check-in easy. There are plenty of food places and stores nearby, so the location was convenient. I had a great stay at the Trade Winds Motel in Lakewood and would come back.

It was okay, and at least the room was clean. The photos make the rooms look much bigger. I didn’t like the bathroom setup because there’s no counter space by the sink, which made getting ready uncomfortable. I think there was only a mini fridge and no microwave.

I came in at 4 p.m. and chose this motel because I needed a kitchen. I’ve had this issue before, so I asked the woman at the desk if the rooms had kitchens. She said they all did, which seemed odd since the cheaper rooms listed online at this same motel didn’t have them, and I’d paid extra for one. Once in my room, I found the stove wouldn’t turn on. The desk clerk told me to wait for the manager, who would arrive in about an hour. After two and a half hours, a man came to my room and showed me that I just needed to hold the power button for five seconds. Why couldn’t the woman at the desk have told me that instead of making me wait? Then I was told the stove only worked with certain pans and I’d have to buy one across the street at Walmart for $9 or $10. There was a sign in the lobby saying they had induction pans for $20, but they didn’t. The only pan I found at Walmart cost $52, so three hours after arriving I could finally cook. Except the fridge was half the size of a mini fridge and I couldn’t fit my food in it. When I pulled it out to adjust the temperature, roaches ran everywhere. I was obviously frustrated. The man asked how long I was staying, I guess so he could try to make another day better since she wasn’t trying to make this day better. Why would I stay in this awful room, which seemed meant for vagrants and such? Someone was literally digging in the dumpster on the property as I checked in. I travel and stay in hotels a lot, and this is far and away one of the worst I’ve ever been in. To top it all off, the coin-operated ice machine was out of order. Look for yourself.
