WoodSpring Suites Tacoma - Lakewood

The extra charges made this stay feel especially unfair. We were hit with fees for room cleaning, fresh linens, toiletries, dishwasher detergent, trash liners, and $10 each day for a second car. None of that was clearly disclosed, and when we asked the manager about it, they denied it had been mentioned. We even offered to pay for the day we stayed and leave, but staff refused a refund because of the nonrefundable policy. The hotel was recommended to us by the army, and we’ll tell our receiving committee not to refer staff here. The attractive deal price isn’t worth it if hidden fees are used to cover the costs. When we checked in for two people, we also weren’t given a second key, which meant sharing one. Coffee was only available from 6 to 9 a.m., with no creamer. Side and middle back entrances lock after 10 p.m., leaving the front door as the only one accessible by key, so taking our dog out at night meant walking around the building. The gym felt like a fishbowl, and as a woman I felt exposed to leering while exercising in vulnerable positions, so I didn’t use it. One evening the fire alarm went off, but staff gave no update about whether we could return to our rooms. There was a constant burning smell on the first floor, and even though we don’t smoke, the strong smell of marijuana from people smoking close to the building reached our room. A sign said to ring the bell for help at the front desk, but the bell was gone. We shouldn’t have chosen this hotel. Once there, it gave us halfway house vibes, and I felt there was little concern for guests’ comfort or safety.

Sarah and her staff have been understanding and helpful within the limits of what they’re allowed to do. I’ve come to the front desk at all sorts of hours with lots of questions, and they’ve answered each one knowledgeably and with a warm smile. Being greeted by name really touched me. Every day I’ve stayed has been amazing, and the property feels secure. My daughters felt safe and comfortable, which meant a lot given our situation. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and understanding.

The rooms are filthy. They don’t sweep, and I found dog hair everywhere. The bowls left out for guests were disgusting, with sauce all around them. Bathroom drains overflow because dog hair and other stuff clog them, and the dishwasher doesn’t work. I hate staying here, but CPS requires me to come every weekend for visits with my kids, and they pay for the room. I live in Seattle, so being right off the bus line is convenient. My 11-month-old plays on the floor, along with my 3-year-old and 4-and-a-half-year-old, and there’s trash everywhere every time I come. The only things they do are make the bed and clean the shower. Maybe I wouldn’t mind if I were still getting loaded every weekend, but I’m changing my life, and this place just isn’t okay.

Marissa at the front desk was amazing. She showed us the available suites and explained the perks and deals. The place looked clean and great, and it was very quiet. It’s pet-friendly, with a gym in sight, and felt safe and secure, though getting into the building isn’t easy. Great monthly deals with no deposit, too. Overall, a great choice for a stay.
