Trip Hotel Ithaca

The room was so dirty and rundown that we couldn't stay. There was mold on the bathtub, plus a patched ceiling repair with mold and soap scum all over the tub. Carpet was lifting, furniture had visible stains, and paint was chipping everywhere. I didn't feel comfortable walking around. The outside looks abandoned, the lot is full of potholes and generally in bad repair, and there are no lights in the parking lot at night. I felt vulnerable getting out of the car. A path leading straight to the rooms looks like it's been under construction for ages. The staff checking us in seemed nice, but this was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Picture the scariest, dirtiest hotel you can imagine, and that's this place. Think twice before booking.

My dad and I had stayed here a couple of times before, and the rooms were decent, surprisingly good compared with the rest of the hotel. This visit was different. The room hadn't been made up: the sheets were dirty, pillows were half off the beds, there was brown gunk in the sink, and hair all over the bathtub. We were shocked. The woman at the desk apologized and got us another room, but we'll never book here again.

The staff were wonderful both times I've stayed here with my wife and our three kids under 10. The woman who checked us in was one of the nicest people I've met in a long time, and housekeeping and the waitress who made hot chocolate for the kids were friendly too. Rooms were clean, and the pool was open, though its door needs fixing. The hotel is definitely old. We stayed two nights, with two rooms each night. It's centrally located, and Ithaca is small enough that most places are within ten minutes. There's a coffee shop you can walk to, Purity Ice Cream is an eight-minute drive away, and the rooms have little fridges, which is a nice touch. I do wish the whole hotel were non-smoking, since you can smell smoke downstairs. Still, considering what other hotels in the area cost...

The building looks old and abandoned from the outside, though it was probably once a very nice hotel. It needs a massive facelift, and the pool is still out of service. The first night our AC stopped working in the middle of the night, but staff were nice and moved us to another room the next day. The coffee machine didn't work in either room. Rooms were generally clean, but the first floor smells like smoke. I'd recommend staying on the second floor.
