Sleep Inn & Suites Laurel near Fort Meade

I came for a business meeting with papers to print, but staff wouldn't let me use the computer or printer in the lobby, and I couldn't even pay to print. The employee smiled while telling me, “that's how we do it here,” but wasn't actually willing to help. If guests can't use the computer and printer, why have them in the lobby? The walls were paper thin and the rooms poorly put together. It felt like they were cutting every corner to save money. Before booking, I called to ask about late check-in. The manager said it was allowed and didn't mention a fee. When I arrived at 1 AM, I was told I had to pay an extra $79 for checking in after a certain time. I couldn't complete my business tasks because of the hotel's cheapness, and I'm requesting a FULL REFUND. Staff acted friendly, but did nothing to sort out my problems. This was completely unacceptable. Please don't stay here, there are so many better hotels.

The waffles the next morning were life changing. The staff were outstanding and easy to deal with, too. I called when an imminent storm was due that evening and asked for a room for myself instead of driving into Frederick County. They sorted it over the phone in less than a minute, and within minutes I was comfortable and safe in exactly the room they'd promised. What a nice breath of fresh air in today's world.

We paid $170 for two nights, and this place was okay for a small trip of two days or less. I might stay again depending on the trip, but it won't be my first choice. At least now I know what to expect. The indoor pool was completely drained and marked closed on a sign in the office, but the website hadn't mentioned it, so I packed my swimsuit for nothing. The gym was a tiny space with outdated machines. I hardly saw staff around the property or in the hallways, and housekeeping was only available by request. The building smelled clean, like bleach, when we walked in, but past the office there was a strange warehouse smell. We arrived at 4, though check-in was at 3 and checkout was at 11. One of the rooms we booked was clean, and it was the only clean king room available. We had reserved a first-floor king suite with a pull-out sofa three weeks earlier for accessibility, but were given a fourth-floor room with two doubles. We called corporate because someone at the hotel had changed the reservation. It got sorted out, but it was a rough start. The breakfast was barely hot: waffles, toast, cold hard-boiled eggs, corn flakes, Cheerios, white bread, apples, apple juice, coffee, and tea. Both orange juices were out of order. There were strawberry and grape jelly, butter, and syrup packets, plus milk and half-and-half for coffee. The coffee was terrible and very thick.

Breakfast was nearly nonexistent, just two apples, juice, coffee, and the option to make a very thin waffle. The desk clerk wouldn't add another night for me and told me to “do it on line!!” This is an extremely old building. The hallways smelled like POT every night, and the parking lot hadn't been plowed. In the room, a chair had a 2 inch burn hole in the arm. There was no TV because the cable line was broken at the wall. The heater was set to 80° but blew cold air, with 34° outside.
