Eastgate Inn B&B

The porch is a real treat: it’s spacious, you can smoke out there, and hummingbirds come by. They’ll also offer you evening wine and surprise snacks, and there’s a fire pit out back for chilly nights. Breakfast is lavish and delicious, and two guest fridges are available for anything you bring or pick up. Eastgate is wonderfully placed for Tanglewood, just 135 steps from an entrance, though there’s plenty of walking once you’re inside. You can get a golf cart, especially useful for older or disabled guests in your party. The proprietor is about the most hospitable person I’ve met. Traveling solo, she’ll take you under her wing, and if you need a driver, even for an unusual request in the area, she’ll find one. It’s about a 20-minute uphill walk into town for restaurants, shops, a bookstore, the beautiful library, a farmers market, and museums. There’s lots to see nearby, from Edith Wharton’s old home, The Mount, to Gilded Age mansions and house museums. Several venues have good theater, and there’s dance too.

The innkeeper knows the area well, and this lovely B&B is right beside Tanglewood. I’d highly recommend it.

We booked Eastgate B&B through Expedia, which was awful. When we arrived on October 23, 2020 at 6 p.m., the room smelled of body odor and felt hot and stuffy. I asked hostess Dalia about the AC. She said she’d taken the window unit out for fall and suggested opening the windows. I went along with that, but the road noise and the noise from another AC unit were unbearable. When I called again, she said she could provide a fan the next day. Massachusetts fall temperatures can range from the 50s to the 70s, but if a room is advertised with AC, that’s what I expected to have. A fan wasn’t what I paid for. We didn’t sleep at all that night. The next day we told her we were leaving because the room had no AC. I have a rare immunological condition similar to Multiple Sclerosis that makes me sensitive to heat, and I felt sick. She refused a refund for the night we didn’t stay. We hadn’t even asked for money back for the awful night we spent there without AC. She sent us to Expedia, and Expedia sent us back to her. We were left stuck between the two companies with no refund. Both Expedia and Eastgate B&B were very dishonest, and this needs to stop.

The innkeeper was friendly and informative. The setup was comfortable, and the private bathroom was large.
