Super 8 by Wyndham Lexington VA

The customer service was commendable, but this was the least satisfactory budget hotel stay I’ve had. My mother, son, and I were there for two nights to celebrate his birthday at the Virginia Safari Park. The room seemed like it hadn’t been properly cleaned in days. The microwave was unpleasant, dust was all over, the tub was dirty though the rest of the bathroom was clean, and there was a cobweb on the safe. We arrived late and were tired, so I asked the next morning for the room to be cleaned while we were at the Safari Park, pointing out what needed attention. The front desk staff were accommodating and said it would be done. When we came back, the beds had only been partly made, and nothing else I’d asked about had been addressed. We made the best of it because family time matters to us.

I work night shifts as a nurse, and the staff respected my sleep schedule. They didn’t wake me at the wrong time, and I could get supplies when I needed them. I stayed in two rooms, and both refrigerators had an issue, though I could manage with them. Everyone on staff was friendly.

We stopped for the night on our way home to Southern West Virginia. Since I’m disabled, a smoking room on the third floor, with stairs and no elevator, wasn’t an option. My husband asked whether the first-floor rooms had outside doors for smoking, and the front desk man said yes, but I don’t know if he lied or misunderstood. We didn’t smoke at all. The beds were hard as bricks, everything looked antiquated, and I only used the sheet because the top covers looked filthy. The analog TV picture was so bad we gave up and went to sleep. When my husband tried warming coffee we’d brought from Sheetz, the microwave smelled like smoke. At $70 a night, this was pathetic. Wyndham should be ashamed. We’ve stayed at many Wyndham Hotels, and this one didn’t meet my standards, even though I’m not usually picky. I wouldn’t recommend it.

We stopped because after ten hours on the road our kid couldn’t take any more, so having a room available was helpful. We chose a non-smoking room. It wasn’t smelly, but the hallway reeked of cigar smoke. The room was basically clean, though not deeply cleaned: there were a few hairs in the bathroom and a brown mark on the white shower curtain. The towels and sheets were clean. The small fridge looked clean but didn’t get very cold. They said breakfast was included, but it was only coffee, honey buns, and little cups of yogurt. There’s a Waffle House out back. The employees weren’t very helpful. It was okay for an emergency overnight stop, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a longer stay or vacation.
