Coronado Motel

The place felt unsafe, and the rooms were so poorly kept that we got sick. The shower was dirty, the TV didn't work, and we couldn't bring ourselves to sleep under the blanket because it had huge holes. When we first walked in, a roach was right there to greet us. People kept knocking or trying our door at night, including around 3 a.m. I called the police several times, but the banging continued. Everything is spread out too, so getting groceries means a 30-minute walk each way. This isn't a place I'd consider safe for adults, let alone kids. I strongly advise against staying here.

The rooms are clean and roomy, and you can park right outside your door for the reasonable price they charge. The place does feel a little seedy, though, so it may suit people who don't mind a wilder atmosphere. They don't seem too concerned about how many visitors come to your room or who's going in and out, so it can feel like a free-for-all. I wouldn't bring children here.

The owner did offer a discount for my two-night stay, but only after I went back and forth about it, and the customer service wasn't what I'd hoped for. The rooms have been remodeled and look nice, but this stay was a letdown compared with my first visit. Back then the service was good and my nonsmoking room really didn't smell of smoke, even though the shower hadn't been cleaned. This time the first two nonsmoking rooms I was given smelled like smoke, and the room I finally got was missing the refrigerator that's supposed to be in every room. My sheets had some kind of green candy on them, and I had no internet or TV on my last night. There was also a very different crowd staying there. It's a decent option if you're in a pinch, but I think the rates are too high for what you get.

We checked in around midnight, and the walk to our room took us past another room with a very strong, distinct smell coming from it. Inside ours, baby cockroaches scattered across the floor as soon as we turned on the light. The refrigerator smelled bad and was leaking, the futon had some unidentified stuff on it, and the door had deep grime from fingerprints. Really dirty. I wouldn't recommend it.
