I was traveling alone for seven nights and just needed somewhere basic to sleep. This hotel is in the heart of Koreatown, a block from Western and Wilshire, with a Ralphs right across the street. I booked the first five nights through Agoda, and the front desk gave me a discounted rate for extending by two nights. Parking seemed like good value at $10-15 with in-and-out access, though I didn’t have a car. Housekeeping is only available on request, and there are still lots of Covid19 signs around the building. The internet was stable but only 5Mbps, barely usable. The walls seemed very thin, or maybe my neighbor was sensitive, since the front desk called me about the TV and phone volume on my first two nights. I didn’t think I was especially loud, but I kept the noise down for the rest of the stay. It’s a very basic hotel or motel, which worked for my needs. If I were traveling with my wife, I wouldn’t stay here, because she’d find the room not very clean.

I was traveling for business while dealing with a personal emergency, and Justin, the manager, handled it with a lot of empathy and grace. He and his team made sure I was looked after every step of the way. My stay at Garden Suites Hotel felt like a support system when I needed one, not just a place to sleep. One of the best customer service experiences I’ve had. Five stars to Justin for his care and leadership.

The deposit took almost 10 days to come back, instead of the expected 1-2, which was really inconvenient. The old furniture and room that didn’t feel clean or fresh also made the stay disappointing. For what it costs, I expected better quality and comfort. It doesn’t feel worth the money, and I wouldn’t stay here again.

Everything I brought with me ended up carrying that smoke smell, even my CPAP machine and luggage. I’d paid for a non-smoking room at Garden Suites, but it was clear right after I entered that people had smoked in it before. The odor was overwhelming. Since the hotel was full, there was nowhere else to move me, and management offered no credit or compensation. I expected the smoke-free room advertised and got the opposite. I was very disappointed and won’t return.

The lobby looked lovely with its Christmas tree, and we had a great holiday stay. In Koreatown, right across from the Wiltern, the location worked really well. I’d happily come back and recommend it to anyone wanting a cozy place to stay.
