My husband and son went to this place in January to visit a family member in the hospital. My husband booked on his phone while my son drove up from Southern California, instead of using a hotel chain site, Booking dot com, or Priceline as I’d suggested. He tends to look for a “reasonable” price rather than paying for a quality, well-regarded hotel. I found out when I checked my Find My Phone GPS around midnight and saw them at another location. My son said they had checked in and left their bags in the room before driving to the hospital. When they returned pretty late after dark, they sat talking in the room about roaches crawling around on the nightstands and elsewhere. My son convinced my husband to leave, and they took their bags and checked out. There was some odd interaction at the desk, and the clerk wasn’t helpful. They booked at a highly regarded place up the road instead. When they got home, they didn’t have more to add beyond saying it was gross. My son refused to stay. They didn’t sleep there, but they had checked in, left their bags, and stayed long enough to discuss what to do. One star for free parking, since I can’t give less than one.

I stayed here off and on for a few months, and the problems I saw included roaches, broken fridges, sinks, outlets, remotes, and security cameras. There was no hot shower water, no cold water at the sink, and water was shut off for multiple days without notice. Someone overdosed upstairs, police wandered the halls at night, private guest information was shared at the front desk, and parking rules weren’t enforced, leading to accidents. Gas cars parked illegally in the EV spaces, so no chargers were available. I also saw people sleeping in cars, unsupervised children under 10 in the pool area, unleashed dogs and dog poop in public areas, screaming fights and abuse, and open use of hard drugs that aren’t legal even in California. Male guests or trespassers screamed at female staff while male staff did nothing. LA has plenty of shitty motels, but this place seems to think it’s better than it is. It could be worth the price, but Royal Pagoda in Chinatown has similar prices and at least the rooms are clean. This place feels like a flophouse in disguise.

I’m staying here now with my family and wouldn’t trade it for anywhere else. The prices are by far the best, the manager is friendly and understanding and works with you, and the cleaning staff are the best around this area. Five stars from me and my family for hometown inn.

The room was basic and nothing special, just what you’d expect for the price. The gentleman who checked me in at night was very nice and put us in a pretty safe room near the entrance. My partner and I woke at 11:30 and were running late, so we tipped the maid and left by noon. I told the woman at the front desk we were late and would definitely come back, but she said I wouldn’t get my $13 deposit back. I said then we wouldn’t return. If I owned a business, I’d refund $13 for the chance of having a repeat customer. Bad business, but whatever, their loss.

For all three nights, someone screamed and argued with another person from 6 a.m. until around 9 a.m., every single morning. We also had ice cold showers every day. The shower water heater never worked, so there was no hot water, not even lukewarm, and the sink water never got warmer than cold. None of my friends staying in separate rooms had a working TV or remote either. There were no remotes in any of the rooms. We booked a non-smoking room, but it smelled strongly of cigarettes as soon as we walked in. The sheets and pillows were technically clean, though they stank of smoke. I asked for another room immediately and was told none were available. $80 a night was far too much for this experience. I strongly recommend avoiding this place; it shouldn’t even be considered a hotel.
