Wilshire Crest Hotel Los Angeles

The staff were very friendly, but the hotel wasn't what I expected. My room smelled a little off, and the toilet kept running for more than two days. I told the staff, but nobody fixed it. The included breakfast wasn't really breakfast. They'd be better off just saying there's coffee and some muffins.

I slept well and the place was solidly clean, though the quiet depends on your neighbors. The staff were accommodating and congenial, and I'd come back if they had smart TVs. They don't currently have any. I'm not from SoCal, and I found some of the other customers obnoxious. Breakfast was cereal, bananas, sugary processed snacks, and coffee, with no bread or bagels.

The room was spotless, and the cleaning staff were super professional. Even though we were on busy Wilshire, it stayed quiet inside. The hallway could use work because of odor and noise. At check-in, a friendly gentleman told us about the free morning breakfast. The area felt safe, so we walked out in the evening to find food, and there's a small restaurant strip a few blocks away. The hotel dining room has a microwave and water, which was enough even though we didn't have a microwave in our room. We were very happy with the stay and would recommend it to friends and family.

I'm puzzled by the reviews I read before booking. It's not as horrible as it could be, but it wasn't worth more than $100 a night or all the praise. There isn't any parking, and I'm worried I won't find a spot if I leave and come back. The surfaces don't look or feel clean, so I'm using a towel to touch things. I can hear every door opening or closing and every person walking in the hallway. There's a connecting door that doesn't lock, so I pushed the bed against it. The ceiling fire extinguisher is right over the bed, which would be a fun wake-up if there were a fire. They still use house keys, and the fridge is a tiny dorm-style box, not a normal hotel-sized one.
