I was there for 11 nights for the ACE Hardware Expo. Staff were polite and responsive, and a special thanks to the Hotel Engineer for sorting out my AC issue quickly and efficiently. The room was clean, but the tub was small and the walls were thin enough that I could hear conversations and TVs in other rooms. The internet was very slow, so I used my phone hotspot. Housekeeping only came on Fridays. I asked for service twice, but ended up handling some trash myself. The lounge TV didn't have a remote, though staff would likely be able to help with that. The AC cooled the room, but not consistently. There wasn't a view, which is typical for the area. I noticed a faint marijuana smell in the hallways, and some rooms had minor smoke issues. The area is urban, and the hotel has long-term residents facing challenges. I felt safe myself, but families may want to take that into account. I'd consider staying again if money were tight or as a last resort. For regular business travel, I'd choose somewhere else unless there were group discounts.
The night shift guy, Chris I think his name is, was very helpful and probably the most professional person there. Roberta at the morning desk was helpful and always up on all the drama and happenings around the property. The property is pet friendly, dogs only I think. It's an older place, but not completely outdated. There has been staff turnover, and the differences are noticeable. The new maintenance man seems clueless. He even pulled the fire alarm for some unknown reason, then acted surprised when it went off. The new manager isn't personable at all. Housekeeping has apparently changed for the worse, almost like an inmate work release program from the women's prison. That tall person on second shift is usually on her phone or outside with her husband, so don't expect much help then. It always smells strongly of pot, so they seem marijuana friendly. Wi-Fi is a joke, about as slow as dial-up in the early 2000s, and the TV service is bottom tier. If you only need a place to sleep and wash up, it'll do, but don't expect the amenities typical of a hotel. PS, this is the only business in the area with a flagpole, yet there's no American flag on it. That unsettles me.
When my family and I arrived tired from the road, Roberta and leo were working nights and were the nicest, most welcoming hotel staff we'd met. The room I'd booked wasn't available, so they upgraded me. Thanks to them, our stay was safe, affordable, clean, and comfortable. Thanks, leo and roberta.
I’m only four hours into a week here, and I’m already done with it. Smoke gets into the room even though it seemed better than the hall at first, and the smell has given me a headache. The place looks fairly clean, but that doesn’t help much. I booked somewhere with a kitchenette, yet the cabinets are nearly empty: one cup, hardly any silverware or bowls, and almost nothing to cook with. The WiFi is awful. This place sucks.
Yahnise at the MainStay Suites front desk made a hard moment easier for me. She was warm and patient as soon as I arrived, and I felt safe, heard, and supported. She checked me in with a smile, listened, offered useful suggestions, and helped with things I hadn't even realized I needed help with. Her kindness felt natural, and she handled everything with real care and professionalism. People like her are rare. She made my stay worthwhile, and MainStay Suites is lucky to have her. If I could give more than five stars, I would. Thank you, Yahnise. Truly God-sent.
