La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Lubbock Southwest

The free washer and dryer were a real plus for me, though several machines were broken. The hotel felt clean and warm, with well-kept hallway carpets, elevators, and other facilities. The Christmas decorations were a hit with our kids, and the front desk person was a little blunt but reasonable. There was a stain on the bedsheet, and the refrigerator door wouldn't close all the way. That could be hazardous if someone got up to use the bathroom at night. Hotels see all sorts of guests, so I know everything can't always be perfect, but communication matters and managers should offer reasonable solutions.

We were comfortable during our travels and enjoyed our two-night stay. The atmosphere, service, and rooms were all great, and everything was very clean. The only thing I'd change is the pillows: the small square ones didn't suit a king-size bed. I'd come back and recommend it, but I'll bring my own pillows next time!

There was a nice view from the fourth floor, and the parking lot was large. The room was spacious, much bigger than the La Quinta in Lubbock off I-27, and the bathroom was clean. I didn't notice the blackout curtains behind the printed sheer ones at first, but they made the room pitch black. It's a very clean hotel, and this is the nicest La Quinta in Lubbock. I'd stay here again despite the problems. The beds were extremely firm, the pillows floppy, and the toilet low and unsteady. I could hear the TV next door through the thin walls, and doors slamming all night as people let them go. The ceiling light switched on by itself in the morning and woke me. There was a ceiling fan and no loud wall AC unit; I didn't need heat or AC, so I assume it has central air. The smoke detector light flashed every two seconds all night. Only one of the four elevators worked, so we waited a long time and, around 10 a.m., it stopped on every floor. We were crammed in with our luggage. Direct TV kept glitching, with a poor signal and barely any channels.

Just yuk. I don't expect anything fancy, but cleanliness should be standard, and I won't come back. The lobby restrooms were disgusting, with dirty seats and trash cans overflowing with napkins. The rooms weren't ready when we arrived shortly after 4 p.m., even though we had two rooms. The lobby was full of waiting customers, and we sat for another hour watching others get told the same thing. The beds were clean once we got in, but the bathrooms felt and looked dirty. Breakfast was decent. Come on, La Quinta, you have to do better.
