Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Lubbock

We came back after a long day to find the same mess still there, even though we’d asked in the morning for someone to sweep and clean the food-like smudge on the restroom light switch. The restroom and entrance hadn’t been swept when we arrived, either. I told the front desk receptionist, but nothing was done and no other room was offered. There’s very little attention to detail in cleaning the rooms or building.

The rooms were very clean, and everything besides the beds and breakfast was fine. The beds are really hard and uncomfortable, and breakfast wasn’t very good. The hot tub was warm, but not hot.

Almost every surface had stains that couldn’t just be tossed in the washing machine. It was REPULSIVE. I was in too much of a rush to leave in the morning to demand a refund, but this was absolutely disgusting. The door had a huge gap and didn’t close tightly, so hallway noise came straight in. I could hear kids running around and people talking near the elevator, and everyone could hear what was happening inside our room too. I could even hear my husband’s phone from the hallway. We stuffed a blanket into the gap to try to muffle the sound. ROACH MOTEL WITH A FACELIFT!! I couldn’t get any sleep.

The room and staff made a great first impression. It was spacious, with a comfortable King bed, a roomy bathroom, and clean, soft bed and bath linens. My wife and I slept wonderfully. The AC worked without roaring, there was no highway or outside noise, and the staff were affable, helpful, and gracious. I loved the room and the hotel’s overall atymosphere. What lowered my rating was the security and breakfast. There was no dead bolt, just the pass key handle and an inner fold-over lock that lets the door open a couple of inches. A heavy wallop could overcome it, so I wedged my cane under the handle. Breakfast around 6:15 AM was poor: the biscuit gravy was cold and had something in it that made my tongue burn and tingle like an allergic reaction starting. The link sausage and scrambled eggs were barely warm. I threw the food away, which, to my mother, was a sin. Management could bring this place up to 5 stars by addressing the door lock and breakfast.
