Hyatt Place Madison Downtown

We were in Madison for my son's surgery at UW children's, so having somewhere convenient and pleasant mattered a lot. The hotel is about a 10 minute drive from UW, with coffee shops and restaurants nearby, plus a grocery store just a block or two away for snacks. It's right down the street from the capital building, an easy little walk. Breakfast was a feast: eggs, bacon, French toast, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, muffins, milk and oat milk, coffee, and juice. The rooms were clean and quiet, and the staff were so friendly and helpful at breakfast. Matteo had some especially good jokes 😂. We stayed two nights, and it made a stressful trip easier.

I left my white AirPods on the bed, where they blended into the sheets, and called to report them missing. The staff searched for them and mailed them back to me right away. They were already wonderful throughout our stay, from the college students at the front desk to the managers on duty, and everyone seemed glad to be there. Our group, Galena Crew, was happy we chose this hotel. If we have another show in Madison, we know exactly where we'll stay.

This visit was a letdown after staying here before. We were in a suite for several days, Thursday through Sunday, with two queen beds and a pullout, but there was no microwave. I wondered if ours was the only room in the whole hotel without one. The staff were generally very nice, though one older woman with a shoulder-length grayish bob and a crossbody bag, who worked afternoons and evenings, was quite unfriendly. Maybe she'd just had a few bad days.

Breakfast changed from day to day. We had sausage and pancakes the first morning, then bacon and French toast with scrambled eggs the next, along with toast, bagels, English muffins, hardboiled eggs, yogurt toppings like fruit, granola and nuts, and cereal. No potatoes, but it was a solid free breakfast. Our room was clean, including the shower and sink, and we didn't find any hair. The only real drawback was the lack of a microwave on our floor. They have them on floors 9 and above, but we were on the 8th. The hotel is a lovely base for exploring the state capitol. We didn't get a view of it from our side of the building, though you might from another side, and the city view was still gorgeous.
