Holiday Inn Express St. Louis Arpt Maryland Hgts

The shuttle was a big reason we booked this place for a concert, since I was told it would run to and from the venue. At check-in, we found out that service was no longer available. The room was also nothing like what we expected: two double beds, no fridge or microwave, and no other room was available when I asked to switch. They wouldn't offer anything to make up for it or give us a late checkout. The whole hotel smelled strongly of mold and mildew. Our room was barely clean, with dirt and lint on the floor and wet-cloth streaks on the TV and other surfaces. At 9 the next morning, there was no hot water for a shower. The building is old and seems to need repairs, paint, landscaping, and major maintenance everywhere you look. I never got an email confirmation, only a number, though I called a week ahead to confirm I had a room. I was very disappointed.

There was glue on the bathroom floor and toilet, and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned before the room was turned over. The hotel is under construction, but they don't seem to care about the glue and paint smell throughout the floors. My room had a bed and desk chair, with no extra chair, and there wasn't a working smoke detector. The front desk didn't want to hear about any problems. Breakfast was subpar, too. As an IHG Rewards Platinum member, I won't be back and wouldn't recommend this property.

We arrived with a confirmation number, but they had lost our reservation. During our four days there, the weather board and its fun cat fact never changed, and neither did the rest of the experience. Breakfast was bad in every way, and the chocolate milk in the cooler had spoiled milk in it. The place was dirty and gross. Floors and elevator were filthy, there was someone else's makeup towel wadded up in the bathroom corner, and there was gross personal stuff in the tub and toilet. Our door handle was broken, half the outlets didn't work, the side door card readers failed, and the hallways were dark. There was construction debris around, but that wasn't the main issue. This was the worst hotel I'd visited since I was young and didn't know better. Avoid it in 2023.

The men's bathroom on the main floor was leaking sewage water, and check-in was a joke. One man seemed to be running the whole place, and I think he may have cleaned the rooms too. We booked one king bed but got two full beds. After checking in, I wasn't about to go back and argue. Three people ahead of us got keys that didn't work, so I guess we were lucky ours did. One star may be generous. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
