Hotel Beaux Arts, Autograph Collection

The gym was the one real highlight. The hotel shares a building with the Marriott and presents itself as a more personal luxury stay, but the only personal touch we got was a glass of champagne at check-in. The pool was closed, so we were sent next door to the Kimpton's pool, which was much nicer. Amenities were sparse, there was no fridge, and valet was the only parking option at $75 a night. Getting the car back regularly took more than 20 minutes. I wouldn't stay again. There are much better places in the area.

The rooms are lovely, and the fresh berries at breakfast were a plus. The rest of the breakfast was just okay and didn't feel like what you'd expect at a five-star hotel. The pool gets shade almost all the time, so it's not much use, and there's no bar where you can sit for a cocktail. Bowling and pool are included, which is nice, but basketball costs $75. The games area is freezing, too, so you'd need a winter coat to enjoy any of it.

I'm a Platinum member, and this stay offended me. The property is three floors in a very tired, old Marriott high-rise, with dated rooms, no real services or staffing, and a layout that's painfully inconvenient. At 4:30 pm our room still wasn't ready. We were on the 39th floor, yet had to wait for elevators down to the ground lobby for ice or anything else, since the "autograph" staff left at 6 pm. The "Club" was just a big open room. Staff even begged for extra tips after charging us $60 for two glasses of wine. This was a very bad experience, probably the worst Marriott property I've stayed at. They should be ashamed to advertise it as an autograph property. Stay away.

The room was stunning, and the staff were helpful and professional throughout. I had booked at the JW Marriott Marquis and was upgraded to an executive suite at the Beaux Arts. I hope I can return soon.
