Hotel Pacific

Breakfast was the one letdown. We had to go down to the meeting room area, which was fine, but many things were repeatedly empty. The coffee ran out often, the listed burritos never showed up, and people waited for refills that didn't come. We were basically left with toast or a bagel. If breakfast is offered, it should be stocked properly or described in a way that matches what guests will find. That aside, the hotel is adorable, and getting around was easy: restaurants, shops, and downtown were all a pleasant walk away. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a lovely view. From the moment we arrived, the welcome felt warm. Jovanna at the front desk was so kind, helped us settle in after a long drive, and surprised us with an upgrade. I'd happily stay here again. The grounds feel like a quiet little world, with fountains, tucked-away nooks, and private patios or balconies built into a terraced hillside. Even in heavy rain, everything felt cozy and calm. In nicer weather, I can imagine the outdoor spaces, private hot tub, and fire pit being magical. The architecture is a real highlight, and the rear ramp and elevators also make second-floor rooms accessible by van for guests with mobility issues. Our suite had a generous living area with a gas fireplace, roll-out sofa, nested coffee tables, four armchairs, and a small glass dining table. There were plenty of lighting options and outlets, strong free Wi-Fi with no login, very comfortable beds, and a TV with HBO. The huge bathroom opens into the suite behind locking shutters, and has a long vanity, soaking tub, and separate glass-and-terracotta shower. It smelled strongly of melon, though I couldn't tell where that came from. Maybe the cleaning products? I'd first stayed at Hotel Pacific years ago, then came back over the holidays after spending Thanksgiving at another local hotel. It still has a genuine sense of place and soul. Staff were welcoming, and it's a short walk to lively historic Alvarado Street, restaurants, and a pharmacy. The hotel garage makes coming and going convenient. If a detail matters to you, check the website or call around the 4 pm check-in hour. We'd absolutely return. 🔥⛲️🌿

We came back two weeks later for our son's birthday, and we still love the mission-style feel, roomy suites, fireplace, and how much is within walking distance. That visit, though, we had a back room and the garbage truck woke us two mornings in a row while picking up the large bins. I also don't understand why both elevators still can't be working after so many months. On our first stay, we appreciated the furnished patio and planted area for our small dog, so she could do her duty without leaving the hotel. The rooms have a couch that converts to a bed, a little fridge and microwave, plus a large bathroom with separate bath and shower areas. The location is great for downtown, the square, Fisherman's Wharf, Ocean View trails, gardens, historical museums, and Carmel coffee @ Portola. The continental breakfast room is large, but the choices are limited. We'd come again.

That breakfast was unreal, one of the best parts of our weekend, with fresh, delicious, unusual options and plenty of room. The whole stay felt special. Our room was spacious, with a balcony and a cozy fireplace, and the place had the charm of somewhere on the European coast. What stayed with me most was the vintage character. The hotel has a warmth and personality that's hard to find now, and I hope it never changes. Not every place needs a modern renovation or that sterile doctor's-office feel. People who value history, warmth, and authenticity will love it as it is. We were completely blown away and are already dreaming about going back.
