Rodeway Inn Monterey

The location is good, but the owner seems not to care about the place. This may be the worst Rodeway I’ve stayed in. The furniture, mattress, and pretty much everything else needs an upgrade. Choose another local motel, don’t be taken in by the name.

As soon as I entered, the room smelled of smoke. The sheets were stained and dirty, with hairs and scraps of torn paper on the bed. There was no toilet paper, thick white stuff covered the TV and remote, and the shower curtain had mold. Disgusting. I left within 20 minutes.

It was a typical dated motel, with no recycling bin and no breakfast. I didn’t expect much and got what I paid for, though it felt a little overpriced. Around $50 including taxes and fees would be reasonable. I booked two queen beds, but they gave me two doubles, despite what the official website said. I’d rate the reservation 3.5 points, but there was no half-star option.

The room needs serious attention. It was extremely dusty, the shower curtain had mold, and there was only one tiny trash can in the bathroom. The beds were very uncomfortable, the sheets had holes, and there weren’t enough towels or toilet paper. The window had no screen. Outside was dirty and poorly cleaned, with a broken box tub under the AC and spiderwebs around the doors. I also struggled with the room key card several times.
