Scottish Fairway Inn

We liked the room, and the beds were comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly and really helpful, and there was plenty of free parking. It’s a quiet neighborhood, too. The only snag was a toilet that leaked a little overnight. The place is worth the price and close to some great attractions.

We were in a bind after our Airbnb fell through, and Scottish Fairway Inn in Monterey came to the rescue. We were so impressed that we returned for another stay. The rooms were spotless and cozy, with very comfortable beds and lots of pillows. The hot water pressure was great, too. Everyone made us feel looked after from the minute we arrived. The staff were well trained, kind, and clearly focused on guests. Michael and Sam deserve a special thank you for their warmth and wonderful service. I'd absolutely recommend staying here.

The room had loads of space, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean it was. When our coffee maker and key cards stopped working, the staff replaced them quickly. It can get noisy in the mornings when planes take off, though I only noticed it then. There was no air conditioning, but we didn't need it at this time of year. I'd recommend the place.

We picked this motel for the Monterey Jazz Festival at the Fairgrounds, which was less than a five-minute walk away. Monterey itself was an easy, pleasant 50-minute walk, and Cannery Row took about 20 minutes more. Fisherman's Wharf was an $8 Uber ride, and Monterey's Fisherman's House Restaurant was an 11-minute walk down Casa Verde Way. Our room was third from the front and got quite a bit of Fremont St traffic noise. A room farther back might be quieter, though the traffic isn't the motel's fault. The bed was delightful, and the maid responded quickly when we needed more towels. But the place is really run down. The baseboards were grimy, and the old Pergo/LVP floor always seemed dirty. At 5 a.m. on the third night, I saw two cockroaches. I bought traps at CVS the next day; the manager reimbursed me without asking questions and offered Raid spray. That makes it seem like roaches aren't an unusual problem.
