Margaritaville Lake Resort, Lake Conroe/Houston

The whole resort had a relaxed tropical, Caribbean feel, and the common spaces were spotless and well cared for. Our room was roomy, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The restaurants were great too, with excellent service and top-notch food. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and were incredibly friendly. Highly recommended.

We probably won't return, mostly because two days cost so much. Resort fees should be part of the room price, and a room advertised as lake view should say when it's only a side view. The staff everywhere were personable and nice. We had booked the Valentine's dinner, but the steak was mediocre at best, and there's an extra service charge we're still questioning. The bed was rock hard, and the AC wasn't working. It was cool enough that we left the sliding door open all weekend, but we didn't report the problem until checkout. Some of this comes down to personal preference.

We spent a February weekend here to unwind together. It was cold, but we still had a really enjoyable stay. I hadn't realized so many of the pools were heated, or I would've packed my swimsuit. With all the activities and water features for kids, I'd recommend it for couples or a small family vacation.

I travel for work about 180 nights a year and have for the past decade. This was the worst hotel experience I've had, which is especially disappointing on one of my few family trips, over Mother's Day weekend. Thursday was fine before the events started arriving. By Friday afternoon, everything slowed to a crawl. At the local Landshark, we waited 30 minutes even though plenty of tables looked open. The elevators were a disaster: it took us 45 minutes to get down after leaving our room, with six or seven full elevators passing before we could fit. They kept stopping at floors where groups were trying to check out. Staff seemed oblivious and unsympathetic, and either couldn't or wouldn't offer a solution. This is a cheap hotel option for events and seems to rely on them, but it isn't staffed or equipped for more than mild capacity. If you want a resort style stay, or just a hotel where you can relax, make the extra drive to the many options in Houston and skip this place.
