Fairview Inn

It was a bed and seemed clean, which was about what we could hope for after putting off a stop until 3:00 am. Inside and out it looked close to the "Bates motel." Charming. We asked the owner/manager, who we'd obviously woken up, what the rooms were like. He said, "quite lovely." What else did I expect him to say?

I was tired on the highway and stopped here for safety. The room was clean, and the bed and linens were fine, but nearly everything else was extremely dated, with some things broken. The TV looked like it was from 1985, and the phone clearly needs replacing. I heard the place has a new owner and is under new management. They should put some money into renovating it. The location is convenient to the highway and the hotel could be nice, but in its current shape I'd hesitate to stay unless I had to.

The price was cheap, so I guess we got what we paid for. The bed was pretty hard, and our non-smoking room smelled of smoke despite a sign in the office saying all rooms are non-smoking. The bathroom door wouldn't stay shut, though luckily we were comfortable enough with that. There was ATV noise at night. I booked online, but the young guy swiped my card and my bank shows two charges, so I'll keep an eye on it. We did get more than the booking mentioned: a fridge, microwave, and cereal for breakfast.

The shower had several problems: the hot-water handle was missing, the shower head was shot, and the loose tub drain cover floated away from the drain. The walls were stained, with what looked like mold in the corners, and the tub had rust-colored stains. We would've taken another room, but none was available. Someone was supposed to come fix the handle and never showed, so I used the vice grips from my car. The beds sagged about a foot, and roaches were running around. This was the worst motel we've stayed in. I'll never stay at another Red carpet inn, and I'll tell others the same. I gave one star only because the site wouldn't let me choose zero.
