Hotel de la Monnaie, French Quarter

There’s a nearby market, so the location worked well, and the room had a really nice atmosphere. It felt a bit like an air-bnb, with two TVs and a gas range. The place is kind of old, but they lent us pans for free so we could cook. There were spoons and forks, too.

You can’t beat the location, and the price was very good. The bed and bathroom were clean, though the floor wasn’t. The carpet in the room was filthy, so I spread the extra blankets on it to avoid stepping on it. The pool was more like a fountain to sit in, and I wasn’t sure how clean it was. Staff were attentive at times and snippy at others. They’d take care of a request quickly, but could be snippy while doing it. Would I stay again? Yes, for the location and price. I’d just put towels down on the floor again.

The room was quiet and had two separate bedrooms, a comfortable living room, and a small kitchenette in the little hall between the bedrooms. There was also a courtyard below, visible over the banister on the way to the elevator. It’s a beautiful hotel, just a block from French Market, and the staff were very helpful. It worked well for two couples sharing the cost for a night or two.

Every morning from about 2 am, train horns woke me up. The beds felt like plywood, and there was almost no water pressure in the rooms. The pool wasn’t working, and the kitchen was a joke when the appliances did work. They don’t seem to care about guests who aren’t timeshare “owners.” This has to be one of the worst hotels in french quarter. Save your money, you’d get a better stay on the streets than here.
