The Belvedere Hotel

Being in Midtown made getting around so much easier than when I stayed in Greenwich Village on my last NYC trip. The Belvedere Hotel put us near Times Square and most of the Broadway theaters. There’s no included breakfast, though they do have coffee and cereal in the lobby. I really enjoyed staying here, and it’s a great option.

The front desk was really nice, especially the man who checked us in. The bellmen brought our bags up, though they sort of tossed them down. Our room was okay, but it got too warm and there was no AC thermostat, so I had to crack a window all night. That brought in a lot of outside noise. We could also smell someone smoking on our floor, and there was a constant clicking sound from somewhere. The toilet area was cramped, and the elevators were very slow. Not sure I’d stay again.

The staff were lovely, and the room was spacious, but the building really needs an update. In room 711 the right curtain had a big hole, the blankets should be thicker, and there weren’t outlets suited for USB charging. It would help if the lamps had outlets built in, like they do at other hotels. There were mites crawling on the bathroom and room surfaces and across the floor, cobwebs in the kitchenette, and the shower drain didn’t work. Only one elevator was running while the building was full. We waited about 20 minutes for an empty one and nearly missed our bus home.

The shower pressure was incredible, and the staff were very accommodating. Our room was a good size and had a kitchenette with a microwave and mini fridge. It’s close to public transit, good restaurants, and Broadway shows. We’ll definitely stay here again.
