DoubleTree by Hilton New York LaGuardia Airport

The overnight front desk woman, I think her name was Debra or Gabriela, made the biggest impression on me. She was working at 2 am and showed such genuine hospitality. Everyone was great, but she really stood out. We stayed February 7-10 during unbelievably cold weather, and the whole visit was a gem. The chicken pesto panini was amazing, and the front desk team was friendly, helpful, and full of good energy. I’ve stayed all over, and this place got everything right. 10/10.

The room was comfortable and nice, but parking was a real pain. Self-parking costs $70, and the garage is far away, poorly marked, and easy to get lost in. Valet would have made more sense, but they don’t offer it. The TV is just regular TV, with no Netflix or screen sharing. I won’t return.

The shuttle was handy, and the location worked well for catching an early flight. The bathroom needs serious updating. The tub was dirty and leaked, and the air conditioning was incredibly loud. This was the worst Hilton chain hotel I’ve stayed in.

Our room, 343, was spacious, clean, and seemed recently renovated. We had one problem on our last night: the local TV channels wouldn’t work. Maintenance tried several times without fixing it and offered either a room move or breakfast. We chose breakfast on our departure day. It was a nice buffet, and we appreciated the gesture, since we wouldn’t have wanted to pay the $50 price. We came to New York for Christmas and spent a lot of time planning how to get around. The trip into Manhattan takes about an hour each way, but downtown hotels were expensive enough that this felt like a good value. The hotel shuttle made the airport connection simple. From Terminal B, call the hotel, go to the lowest level marked ground transportation, and wait by columns 5-6. It usually arrived within minutes, though it runs its route about every 15 minutes. We found it best to take the shuttle to Terminal A, where the free Q70 to Roosevelt Avenue was mostly empty and easier for getting a seat. At Roosevelt Avenue, OMNY made paying at the subway gate easy with a card or phone wallet. I liked the MTA app best, though MTA, Google Maps, and Citymapper all give step-by-step directions, train times, stops, and walking routes. Keep a charger or battery pack with you, because maps can drain your phone. If you’re unsure where to go, ask someone. We’re from Kentucky and expected people might ignore us, but everyone we met was warm and helpful, including the shuttle drivers. I understand the hotel shuttle sometimes runs to Roosevelt station, a 10-15 minute drive. Another option is the free Q70 from the airport. At Roosevelt station, use the Q70 doors in the middle of the subway and cross to the third bus lane for the LaGuardia link. Coming back, we initially boarded the bus toward Queens, but a woman getting off helped us onto the one going toward Roosevelt and LaGuardia. We arrived early and found a sales manager decorating the lobby Christmas tree. We asked if she was feeling festive and whether she could help us get into the room since we needed to leave soon for the Rockettes Christmas show. She kindly waived the fee so we could drop our luggage and freshen up. The hotel was easy to recommend for a Manhattan trip, even with the longer ride.
