Hotel 48LEX New York

The hotel was comfortable and nicely located, and the staff member at check-in was kind and professional. He was helpful each time we saw him. The lobby itself is sparse, but there’s a pleasant lounge on the second floor. They also have water refill stations on some floors, though I’m not sure if they’re on all of them. Staff let us leave our bags before check-in and after checkout, which was very helpful and might make the extra charges worthwhile for some. We hadn’t arranged that in advance, and most NYC hotels offer bag storage without a fee. There were charges in the fine print that management should explain clearly. We were two couples with separate rooms, but the resort fees included only one breakfast voucher per room per day. Each bathroom had one robe, and one room had no soap. That room was described and charged as a suite, but it wasn’t the suite we were shown when booking. The Wi-Fi was awful, so we had to use our data, which adds up quickly. During the wine happy hour included in those fees, the wine was cheap and there was nothing else offered. Two of us don’t drink wine. The woman we spoke to in management about the charges was not customer-service oriented and came across as unprofessional. Read the fine print carefully before booking and paying. Despite the extra charges, it’s a nice, comfortable place, but we wouldn’t recommend it or return.

The location was convenient, with restaurants and shops in walking distance, and it seemed like a safe area. The attached restaurant was good for breakfast and morning espresso or coffee. Front desk staff, engineers, and housekeepers were all friendly. The room was only straightened up once, even though our water bottles were replaced every day, so someone was coming in but the towels weren’t changed and the bed wasn’t made. That wasn’t a big issue for us, though it could bother others. The bigger problems were that the heat and Wi-Fi didn’t work during our stay. Engineers reset the breaker in our room twice, but the heat still failed. Sleeping was okay, but I spent three days trying to work from the hotel and was uncomfortable. My laptop kept losing the terrible Wi-Fi connection, and the alternate network staff offered didn’t work either. The safe also stopped locking. The hotel was clean and the staff were nice, but with the heat and Wi-Fi problems we probably wouldn’t return. I wouldn’t risk staying here in summer in case the AC didn’t work.

I checked in on December 9th, 2025, after an executive room had been arranged and paid for in advance. The hotel was extremely cold, except for the reception area, and there wasn’t even anywhere to sit. My room was dirty: old towels were on the floor and the previous guest’s trash was still in the bathroom bin. It was freezing in there too. I went downstairs to complain about the dirt and the broken central heating. The receptionist said she was cold too and that the hotel had a general heating problem. She promised to send someone to fix it, but after I complained at least four or five times a day, nothing changed. There was no hot water and no heat in my room, so I had to sleep fully clothed. I asked for another room, but they said none were available and they couldn’t refund me, leaving me with no choice but to stay. Eight of my colleagues and I stayed there, and they all had the same experience. For such a high price, this wasn’t acceptable service. My colleagues will surely share their equally bad experiences. This was my worst experience with a hotel, unlike anything I’ve had elsewhere. Absolutely do not stay here. Nothing is as it seems or as you’ve been told.

The staff made this first stay at 48Lex feel so welcoming, and I know I’ll be back. Everyone was attentive, easy to approach, and ready to help with any issues. I especially loved the complimentary wine from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Lady serves it with such a friendly smile and makes guests feel at home. She really made the stay feel extra special.
