LeTap Hotel near AirTrain JFK Airport

The room was in terrible shape for the prices they charge. Furniture was barely holding together, with broken hinges and loose supports. The TV outlet had a visibly burned faceplate that they hadn’t replaced, and the smoke alarm hung from the ceiling with wires exposed. In the bathroom, the ceiling above the shower was falling apart and paint chips were in the tub. The front desk woman was rude and unprofessional. When I asked if the room had been cleaned, she shouted, “Yes! Why are you asking?” I should have taken that as a warning. The room was clearly filthy and unsatisfactory.

The last night was frightening. Around 4:30-5am, a man ran around yelling and knocking on room doors. I looked through the peephole and saw him going from room to room, trying the doors. Later I heard a girl scream, then loud music started. We got up and checked out immediately. The whole stay felt unpleasant and scary. I won’t return, and strongly recommend against booking here or staying in this part of town. We arrived to stale cigarette and cannabis smells. While waiting for our room, we sat in the lobby, where the couches were torn, stained, and smelled awful. The garbage was overflowing. The bad smell continued in the room, whose walls had red splatters, food and trash under the beds, stained sheets and towels, a filthy bathtub, and no soap. We went down hoping to get a clean room, but the receptionist didn’t understand English very well, so we made do with the room we’d paid far too much for. The place was noisy at night, with people yelling outside and others walking around and partying. I’d read some reviews before booking, but they hadn’t put me off because I expected to spend little time in the room.

The staff were mean and unprofessional. When I complained about the dirty floors and tabletops and asked to change rooms, a man said we’d already been there over an hour and had no right to complain about cleanliness. Then he went to get coffee, saying he “didn’t have time for this.” I’ll try to attach a video. We’d arrived hungry, so we dropped our things and went to get food before taking a proper look at the room. Worst of all, they gave us keys to a room that was occupied. A family with a baby was asleep in there, and we disturbed them because of the staff’s incompetence.

The place was badly organized, with a strong tobacco smell throughout the hotel that made us nauseous. The greeting was cold and customer service poor. The bedding was bad, and there wasn’t even an outlet to charge phones. In the middle of the night people were screaming in the hallway. The small parking lot had trash scattered everywhere. The cost was too high for such low service. I’m very disappointed, and didn’t expect this. I’ll check reviews before booking a hotel like this again.
