Microtel Inn by Wyndham Long Island City

I’m a client at this shelter, and the people there have been horrible. The room is noisy, with a lot of sound coming in from outside, and the heat is always on. The elevator doesn’t work, the sink is broken, and the bed is really uncomfortable. The room also stinks.

For the price, I’d consider staying here again. It’s a solid, clean place, and the train nearby makes getting around on the N/W easy. Outside noise barely came in, though I could hear people in other rooms. It wasn’t too bad. The room was nicely done, with good sheets, plenty of towels, a small closet, and a coffee maker. There’s no microwave or mini-fridge. Breakfast was pretty meager: coffee, tea, boxed orange juice, fruit cups, and yogurt. Staff were kind and quick to respond, though mask wearing was inconsistent despite the sign at the entrance saying masks were required.

I was impressed with how thoughtfully the hotel was put together. The lobby looked clean and attractive, check-in was easy, and my King room was spotless. It looked even better in person than in the online photos. The furniture felt substantial, the bed and pillows were comfortable, and the room smelled nice. The bathroom was nice too, and the towels were folded in an unusual way. Compared with nearby hotels, except Holiday Inn, this one stands out. I didn’t try breakfast, but I will next time. The clerk was direct and a bit dry, but nice. A few drawbacks: there’s no refrigerator or ice bucket in the room, and the ice machine is on the 5th floor. Parking is on the street only, and there was no toothpaste or toothbrush. The bed sits pretty low, which may be awkward for a tall person.

I rarely leave reviews, but this stay had too many inconsistencies. It wasn’t an awful hotel, but I probably wouldn’t return. The room looked modern and was pretty nice, but there was no desk or fridge. That made it hard to work there or save food. The hot water was unpredictable, sometimes fine and sometimes absent. My key stopped working several times, and there was only one small blanket. The breakfast and coffee station downstairs left a lot to be desired. The neighborhood wasn’t great, though being close to Manhattan helped. I dealt with about four staff members, and only one seemed to meet basic hospitality standards. The others came across as uninterested or unwilling to sort out problems.
